I'm halfway thru Shadowmancer now...very dark and very interesting, although some parts get a bit too cliche' and the religious implications are too obvious at points (I prefer if it's supposed to be an allegory, for stuff to be more indirect, like C.S. Lewis did in Narnia--makes it less preachy and more interesting). But interestingly, the best parts are the parts with the villain...the protagonists seem a bit 2-dimensional at times, b/c I think G.P. Taylor really expended all his energy in emphasizing just how fricking EVIL the crazy vicar is...I mean, that character FREAKS me out. He calls up demons, traps a dead child's soul in limbo so it can tell him the future, intentionally gets a ship to crash so he can find some treasure that will gain him the power to rise above God, enslaves people to work for him so he can have money, burns a kid's house down while his sick mother is inside...it's really disturbing. But the character is SO well-written. I just wish Taylor had spent more time developing the protagonists, b/c he has the capacity to make them just as amazing.
Perhaps when they make the movie it'll make me like the book more...oddly, sometimes that happens to me with movie adaptations. I only thought Bridge to Terabithia was okay until I saw the movie, and then my opinion of it went up 50 bagillion points"YOU'RE EASIER THAN THE U.S. CONGRESS."~Nikola

Your only starting it now? LOL, I thought you would have plowed through it back in June or early July at latest.
Glad your enjoying. Hope the version you ended up with was the unabridged version.
I am about to commence Death's Head Maximum Offense, the 2nd book in the Death's Head series by David Gunn. Very much enjoyed the first - we all know I love my military scifi......
Happy Reading.---------------------

It is the unabridged, I think the older versions are out of print for the most part.
I was in a middle of another series when The Forever War arrived.
