HH is definitely military sci-fi and not hard as the science is all made up.

I´m a big fan of space operas, military sci-fi and hard sci-fi. I just wish that Weber would occasionally write in good guys who aren't the greatest people ever. Having read what seems like dozens of his books I can hardly remember there ever being a good guy who meant well but just wasn't all that great at his job

I'm currently reading Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury. I seem to be drawn to Ray Bradbury this month.

Only stuff of Weber's I've read is the HH series, but I do see you're point.
          Spoiler:
I mean, knowing the title of the next book, 'In Enemy Hands', I was expecting Honor and crew to get captured by the end of 'Honor Among Enemies'. Instead, she gets rescued...kinda like in that battle against the Masadan. Feels 'deus ex'-ish. A bit disappointing. Still, the whole is rather amusing, and I like the space battles, despite what seems to be a generally predictable outcome. Heck, even some lines and events were predictable (I forget which, but it involved folk dying or even lines stated...something like that).

How about the Hammer's Slammers stuff, are they good? I'm looking for armour-based sci-fi... (to go along w/ the non-fiction armour/tank/panzer stuff)

I seem to recall reading Hammers Slammers many years ago but sadly I don't really remember the book well enough to recommend it. David Drake is usually pretty good so give him a try.

If you haven't read Webers "Stars at war" series which he co-wrote with Steve White then I highly recommend that series, I also recommend his "Dahak" series which starts with "Mutineer's moon". Weber also wrote a armored combat books called "Bolo" and "Old Soldiers" but I think the world was created by someone else unless I remember incorrectly.

In general you don't see all that many tank battle focused sci-fi books since most writers seem to assume that tanks aren't all that viable in interstellar wars.

I really want to read Way of Kings. I am trying to hold off until the new year.

I just finished The Scorch Trials - The Maze Runner 2 yesterday and it was amazing! If you like dystopian type books you must read this series. To me it is like a cross between LOST, Lord of the Flies, and Resident Evil (the first movie).

I am re-reading The Gathering Storm - The Wheel of Time 12 so I can be refreshed for the new book, Towers of Midnight, next week!

I can vouch for hammer's Slammers, and that goes double for any Bolo book, through I haven't been able to get my hands on any of the older books such as The Honor of the Regiment.

On a tangent, I find Weber be be extremely lazy in his world building, reusing the same technology ant tactics with only cosmetic changes. And the Safehold saga is a very heavy pile of rubbish in terms of characterization.

Given the point of this thread, my recent thread should definitely be included..!

These are some truly great series of books, by a very talented author. I highly recommend them to anyone, and as I said in my thread, Subjugation definitely has elements in it that many Stargate fans love. Take a look, and let me know what you think..!

So what specifically annoys you, about me giving this author and his works a great review? I simply think his work deserves recognition, and that many people would enjoy it if they only knew about it. I think that's called being a fan... wow, look! We're on a fansite, that by its very existence advertises Stargate... Hmmm. As I said before, I think the books I'm recommending would appeal to a lot of Stargate fans, of which, I am one. If you don't believe that, just look at how long I've been a member at gateworld. I don't really believe linking one thread to this one, constitutes too much advertising. The post I made here wasn't even that long, as I figured the link could provide the 'heavy' advertising you suggest.

Sorry. It's just that dedicating a whole thread with a multi post excerpt looked a little too much like advertising to me.

I might agree with that possibly, under normal circumstances, but this authors work can NOT be found on a bookshelf, as he has chosen not to publish any hard copies of his work to date. So, I felt the only justifiable way to give this author a chance was to give an example of his work for people to judge for themselves. If they feel it's worth the effort then they can find the rest of his work with the link I've posted and download the rest. I simply don't have the patience to try and post his entire book. Ugh. I felt the amount I did post though, was enough to give a reasonably good taste to any prospective readers.

Well e-books are starting to become big these days. Baen especially uses electronic format.
