...and in news completely out of left field:

FOR QUEEN AND COUNTRY - TRACY-ANN OBERMAN JOINS TORCHWOOD!

Big Finish is delighted to announce the return of Tracy-Ann Oberman as Yvonne Hartman in Torchwood: One Rule, the fourth release in its new series of Torchwood Audio Plays.

Tracy-Ann first appeared as Yvonne in the 2006 Doctor Who episode Army of Ghosts written by Torchwood creator Russell T Davies. The ruthless head of London's Torchwood One, her universe-threatening schemes placed her at odds with the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant).

Yvonne perished in a city wide battle, but this new release takes place in Cardiff a year before her death on a secret mission involving a mysterious alien conspiracy. She's brought her dress sense and her marvellous people skills... and she's no idea what she's in for.

'When we presented the idea of using Yvonne,' says producer James Goss, 'Matt Nicholls at BBC Worldwide came up with a brilliant caveat – he suggested we could have Yvonne, but not the all-powerful Queen Bee of Canary Wharf. Instead he wanted her to come thoroughly unstuck in Cardiff.'

Torchwood: One Rule has been written by prolific author Joseph Lidster – whose previous credits include the second series Torchwood episode A Day in the Death.

'Torchwood was my first piece of writing for television and it remains my favourite series.' says Joseph, 'Not just the television episodes but the books, audiobooks, radio plays, all of it. I'd have been gutted not to have been involved in some way - I'd have happily gone into the studio and made the tea!

'James Goss gave me a choice of available characters but it was Yvonne who leapt out at me. She's one of my favourite characters to have appeared in Doctor Who - she has questionable beliefs but she genuinely thinks she's doing the best thing for her country. She's also incredibly funny and brilliantly performed by the magnificent Tracy-Ann Oberman.'

Torchwood: One Rule will be released in December from the Big Finish website.

The first title, Torchwood: The Conspiracy starring John Barrowman, is available to Big Finish customers to buy now. The series will continue with Torchwood: Fall to Earth in October, starring Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones.

Series 1 and Series 2 are both available to subscribe to today, with Series 1 keeping its special introductory price of £45 on CD and £40 to download until the end of September.

Couple of other bits and pieces I'm noticing:
    - this release also features both Dan Starkey and Catrin Stewart. Not as their regular characters, but I wonder if that's a red herring?

Story synopsis on the BF page for this release:
    Spoiler:
It’s been three weeks since the Mayor of Cardiff was killed by a shop dummy and the fight is on to see who will replace him.

Yvonne Hartman is visiting the city to retrieve an invaluable alien device. She's in charge of Torchwood One, she's saving the British Empire and she doesn't care about local politics. But she is going to find herself caught up in that fight. There’s a bloodthirsty alien stalking the streets and there’s a special offer on at the all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet.

It’s the 26th of March 2005 and it’s the day that everything changes.

We are sorry to announce that the Big Finish forum is indefinitely suspended with immediate effect. The increasing demands on our time both in urgent moderation and countering extensive spam attacks are frequently exceeding our resources and good will, and at a time when other social media platforms now prove not only considerably larger, but far less open to attack, we have taken this decision.

For those wishing to continue following Big Finish news, updates and releases, you're recommended to subscribe to a Newsletter sent out regularly with news and exclusive free offers, and of course there's always the Big Finish news page and our podcasts.

Alternatively, seek us out on any of: Facebook, Twitter, You Tube or Soundcloud.

No warning, precious little explanation, flimsy excuse. And done on the same day as a promotional event.

I have been moderating forums both public and corporate for 14 years, and never once found it to 'exceed my resources or good will.'

          Pathetic.

That's a shame. I've been a bit of a lurker on there for a while. But I can understand their reasoning.

I have lost count the of the number of times I've been over there & just given up as their forum is swamped with spam. There have been literally hundreds of spam posts and it's been a lot worse lately.

Also I think that their enthusiasm for the Forum died with Paul Spragg last year. I rather got the idea he was their main forum person and when he passed away nobody had the heart to continue much.

As for shutting down on the same day as a promotional event... that might be why they shut it down. Doing a full exhausting day on BFD7 and then coming home to find hundreds of spam posts that needed clearing.... Perhaps somebody had had enough.

Then there are the small number of persistent trolls they get on there. They are the reason I didn't post much. Lately I got totally sick of the same old people trolling up and down various threads, moaning on about how they hated "their" classic Doctor Who being "contaminated" with new Doctor Who. Yes the word contaminated was used. As Big Finish are slowly moving towards more New Who products, that sort of thing is only going to get worse. If you are in the business of making a product, why on earth would you want to give people a place to moan on and on about it?

At the end of the day that's what they are... a business.

BTW - if anyone is interested lots of people have moved to Gallifrey Base - http://gallifreybase.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18

I've just seen that the Big Finish Forum is back on a read only basis.

On looking through it, I found this - http://forums.bigfinish.com/threads/8030-Forum-ban

Looks like there has been some sort of problem with child pornography. If this Dalekbuster person was banned on 30th August, then his 20 day ban would take him until 19th September - the day the forum was pulled. Reading the thread, apparently he has already been permanently banned from Gallifrey Base. I wonder if he did something on the Big Finish Forum that made them think that enough was enough.

OMG, I've heard about this Dalekbuster person from my cousins! I've never encountered him myself but apparently he was a menace and managed to get himself banned from multiple forums! From the sounds of things, it sounds like he can add the BF forum to his tally. Good riddance to him I say. Don't need people like that hanging around ruining the fun for others.

                    I totally agree Alan.

Up at the top of the thread there, I said "Then there are the small number of persistent trolls they get on there. They are the reason I didn't post much.".

He was one of them. He was all over the place, making offensive comments, arguing and making downright bizarre posts.

Still no reason to shut down an entire forum... Ban his IP range, select all posts by user and delete. Simple as that. Forum moderation is simple by design.

This is their core community of fans; not many more than that will or have signed up for their particular forums. Shutting them down without warning, with an impersonal/flimsy justification note--it's spitting in the face of their most loyal.

I love Big Finish's products, but this has absolutely cooled my respect for how they conduct their business.

                        Exciting news!

                        http://www.bigfinish.com/news/v/bfd7...-of-doctor-who

Big Finish is thrilled to announce an all-new era for the Intrusion Counter-Measures group.

Launching in July 2016, The New Counter-Measures presents a bold new direction for Big Finish's hit spin-off series, based on the military organisation originally introduced in the 1988 Doctor Who story Remembrance of the Daleks.

After four boxsets' worth of investigations, Counter-Measures: Series 4 appeared to bring ICMG's reign to an end with an earth-shattering finale. But the new series will reveal the fate of the organisation; and how it continued into the era of UNIT.

The New Counter-Measures will be led by Sir Toby Kinsella (Hugh Ross), whose elite team of scientists and military specialists defend the world from threats both homegrown and extraterrestrial.

The series will begin with a double-disc feature-length special in July 2016, before returning for another boxset of four adventures in December 2016.

You can pre-order The New Counter-Measures Special and The New Counter-Measures: Series 1 from the Big Finish website today, with a bundle of both titles also available.

Counter-Measures Series 1 to 4 are still available to order, along with the special prequel story Doctor Who: 1963 – The Assassination Games.

                        **

Countermeasures ended brilliantly, yet quite jarringly - this is wonderful news, especially given the links to UNIT!

Never visited the Big Finish forum, but shutting down the whole thing because of trolls is nothing short of preposterous. It's like setting a lawn on fire because you can't bring yourself to mow.

As for the trolls themselves, I hope some of them finally learn to let go of the rift between the show's past and present.

David Tennant and Catherine Tate reunite for Doctor Who audio adventures

                            http://blogtorwho.blogspot.co.uk/201...rine-tate.html

As regular readers will know, the producers of Doctor Who audio adventures, Big Finish, have secured the rights to various "new" Who characters. Coming up soon are stories with River Song, Strax, along with various aliens and monsters such as the Weeping Angels, Sycorax and Judoon - full details and artwork HERE.

Fans will also be delighted to know that both David Tennant and Catherine Tate will be returning to their roles as The Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble respectively for Big Finish. The pair have signed up to recreate their roles for audio in a series due for release in 2016. Blogtor understands the scripts are ready to go and will be recorded when David and Catherine's schedules permit.

Tennant and Tate first appeared in The Runaway Bride (2006), throughout Series 4 (2008) and then again in The End of Time (2009/10).

Big Finish declined to comment when contacted by BlogtorWho.
