New Who-dunnit: David Tennant teams up with another Doctor Who star for new ITV drama

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/b...ams-up-1112460

Former Timelord David Tennant is to star in new ITV drama Broadchurch alongside Doctor Who sidekick Arthur Darvill.

The pair are part of a new eight-part series penned by Doctor Who and Torchwood writer Chris Chibnall.

Made by Kudos, the production company behind Spooks and Life on Mars, Broadchurch will explore what happens to a small community when it suddenly becomes the focus of a major event and is subjected to the full glare of the media spotlight.

Tennant will play DI Alec Hardy, a newly promoted police detective who arrives in the town following the death of a young boy.

However, local resident DS Ellie Miller (Rev star Olivia Colman) believes the case should have been hers and struggled to negotiate a professional relationship with the tough and unyielding Hardy.

Vicky McClure, who recently starred with Tenannt in BBC1 drama True Love, will also feature, alongside Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Will Mellor and departing Doctor Who actor Darvill , who will play town priest Paul Coates.

Chris said: “Broadchurch focuses on a small British community which finds itself at the eye of a storm.

“In the wake of one boy’s death, the residents of Broadchurch come under scrutiny and suspicion.

“It’s a story of scale and intimacy, as the lives of the characters are laid bare,”

The drama will be made on location in Portishead near Bristol and Dorset, with filming beginning from mid August and continuing through until the end of November.

It will air on screen next year.

Scots actress Karen Gillan goes from Doctor Who to US horror film

      http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/showbiz...6908-23908339/

DOCTOR Who actress Karen Gillan has signed up to star in a new US horror movie.

Karen, 24, will play a grieving daughter who believes her parents were killed by a haunted antique mirror in Oculus, according to the film’s makers.

Filming is set to begin in the autumn in Alabama.

It will be Karen’s second big-screen role since announcing she was leaving Doctor Who, in which she played sidekick Amy Pond

Earlier this year, she starred in the romantic comedy Not Another Happy Ending.

Speaking about her debut film role at Cannes Film Festival, she said: “’It’s always been my ambition to take on a film role – certainly when the right role came my way.

“It’s going to be completely different from anything I’ve done before.”

Karen has played down suggestions she might star in a big-screen version of Doctor Who. She said: “Oh, who knows. I guess you can only cross that bridge when you come to it.”

Christopher Eccleston joins Thor: The Dark World

                http://entertainment.stv.tv/showbiz/...he-dark-world/

The 48-year-old actor is in final negotiations to play super-villain Malekith the Accursed in the follow up to the 2011 superhero movie, which sees Chris Hemsworth portray the titular character and is to be helmed by 'Game of Thrones' director Alan Taylor.

Malekith, the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, is expected to go up against Thor in the forthcoming movie as he does in the Marvel Comics, but plot details are largely being kept under wraps, Deadline reports.

It's not the first time the former 'Doctor Who' actor has portrayed a villain after previously starring as weapons designer Destro in 2009 action movie 'G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra' alongside Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller.

Christopher also took on a bad guy role in 2002 motion picture '28 Days Later' and NBC sci-fi TV series 'Heroes'.

In May, Hemsworth admitted he was ''nervous'' about starring in 'Thor: The Dark World' - which will also feature Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins - because he was yet to a script.

He told BANG Showbiz: '''Thor 2'? Yeah I start shooting in August. I haven't seen a script yet which makes me nervous but yeah! Alan Taylor is directing who has done 'Game of Thrones' so it should be good.''

'Thor: The Dark World' is scheduled for release in November 2013.

Room At The Top Start Date Confirmed

                    http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2012/09...confirmed.html

The first part of the BBC Four adaptation of Room At The Top starring Jenna-Louise Coleman has been given a confirmed broadcast date of Wednesday 26th September.

The two-part drama was made nearly two years ago by Great Meadow Productions and should have been shown in April 2011 but had to be shelved until a copyright dispute between the estate of the late author, John Braine, and Remus Films could be settled. It will air from 9pm to 10pm.

Coleman plays the role of Susan Brown and Kevin McNally that of her father, and a number of pictures of Coleman in the production have been released. Pics at the link above.

The second and concluding part is currently unplaced in the schedules for the week beginning 29th September, although Wednesday 3rd October would seem to be the most likely date for its broadcast.
