A ~ Archangel Network - An Earth-wide mobile phone satellite network (made up of 15 satellites overall) seen in 'The Sound of Drums', the Archangel network creates a low-level, worldwide telepathic field which allows the Master to subtly influence the behaviour of the entire planet, first by convincing a substantial number of the British public to vote for his Mr. Saxon persona and later to keep most of the human race afraid of him. It also masks his Time Lord nature from the Doctor. In 'The Last of the Time Lords', the Doctor uses the network to channel the combined psychic energy of the entire human race, Martha having convinced them to think of the Doctor by name at the same moment.

It affected 98% of the British population by hypnotising them to Vote Saxon. Characters not affected included Clive Jones and Vivian Rook.

D ~ Doctor, The - The Doctor was a renegade Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey who, as a voluntary exile from his homeworld fought injustice where he found it. Alone among the Time Lords, he survived the Last Great Time War with the Daleks. Throughout his life, he had a particular association and affinity with the planet Earth and its Humans.

The Doctor is an extremely enigmatic individual. Befitting this, his true name remains unknown to all but a very few individuals (of which only one, River Song, has been confirmed). Apparently his real name is not even known by the Time Lords.

He is currently in his tenth incarnation, is approx. 1,300 years old and has been travelling through time and space for 903 years. The Doctor stole a Type-40 TARDIS and left Gallifrey and became a hero who fought evil and injustice across the universe, in violation of the Time Lords' non-interference policy. He travelled with many companions, beginning with Susan Foreman who also came from Gallifrey.

Eventually, he was held to account for his crimes against the Time Lords during his second incarnation. The punishment was a forced regeneration and exile to Earth, as well as loss of the knowledge of how to control the TARDIS. After 3 years in exile, this knowledge was restored to him after he helped to defeat Omega.

The Doctor fought in the Last Great Time War between the Time Lords and the Daleks. He was ultimately responsible for ending the war, likely the act which resulted in the obliteration of Gallifrey, as well as the supposed extinction of both races, apart from the Doctor himself.

The Doctor continues to travel through time and space.

E ~ Exxilon - Exxilon was an ancient planet, significantly older than Earth and featued in the Third Doctor serial 'Death to the Daleks'. It orbited a sun which was both larger and closer than the sun of Earth. Its sky was copper in colour. Due to the influence of the Great City of the Exxilons, it was a barren planet, covered in deserts, sand dunes and rocks. The seas had dried up, leaving behind few lakes. It was bitterly cold during the night and unbearably hot during the day. There was little in the way of life on the planet. Exxilon was rich in Parrinium.

H ~ Heriot, Zoe - Zoe Heriot was a brilliant young scientist from the late 21st century who accompanied the Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon in their travels aboard the Doctor's TARDIS.

Zoe first appeared in the 1968 story The Wheel in Space. She was an astrometricist, first class, and astrophysicist on board Space Station W3 (aka The Wheel) when she met the Doctor and Jamie. She introduced herself to them as 'astrophysicist, pure mathematics major'. Zoe had a photographic memory, and was described by her colleagues as 'the librarian'. Her training left her emotionally underdeveloped, having been taught only the value of logic. This lack of emotion led to conflict with some of her colleagues, who challenged her about her apparent lack of personal interest in the Wheel when it was about to be struck by meteorites. When she met the Doctor, Zoe was presented with a case study in how illogical, intuitive, actions and instinct could be successful.

As Zoe became more aware that there was more to knowledge than mere facts, she decided to hide in the TARDIS. She realised that she had learnt as much as she could on the Wheel, where her abilities and role were compartmentalised and defined. Zoe had become ready to discover the universe, and her place in it.

Before he felt ready to have her brave the terrors of the universe, however, the Doctor showed her a thought projection of his most recent encounter with the Daleks.

In the 1969 story The War Games, the Doctor's own people, the Time Lords, caught up with him and placed him on trial. They eventually sent Zoe back to the Wheel. Having had her memory of her time with the Doctor and Jamie removed, other than her initial adventure with them on the Wheel, she was never aware that she had ever been away.

I ~ Ian Chesterton - (Played by William Russell).

Ian Chesterton Travelled with the Doctor between 'An Unearthly Child' and 'The Chase'.

A teacher at Coal Hill School, Ian encountered the Doctor when he visited the home of one of his pupils, Susan Foreman, with his colleague, Barbara Wright. Fearing that the teachers would reveal his secret, Susan's "Grandfather" the Doctor kidnapped them, beginning a series of exciting adventures.

Ian's speciality was science, but his skills as a diplomat were also useful. He was often called upon to play peacemaker, and many times saved the lives of his fellow travellers. His often stormy relationship with the cantankerous Time Lord ended when he and Barbara finally returned to Earth in an abandoned Dalek time capsule.

M ~Malmooth are a race of humanoid insects native to the planet Malcassairo, who are all but extinct by the year 100 trillion. The last surviving member of their race, Chantho, played by Chipo Chung, appears in "Utopia". A devoted assistant to Professor Yana (Derek Jacobi) for 17 years, when the Professor is revealed to be the Master and proceeds to turn on the Doctor and his companions, Chantho threatens to kill him. He electrocutes her, but she manages to shoot him before dying, forcing him to regenerate.
A feature of Chantho's speech is that she starts and ends her sentences with "chan" and "tho", respectively. She considers it "rude" to do otherwise, tantamount to swearing.
Physical features of the Malmooth include an insectoid exoskeleton and mandibles, and the ability to survive by drinking their own internal milk.
