A ~ Anti-Plastic - A blue-coloured liquid that the Ninth Doctor carries as a weapon against the living plastic body of the Nestene Consciousness in 'Rose'. It appears to break down plastics chemically, similar to a highly potent acid, without any effect on other materials.

B ~ Bok - Bok was the gargoyle servant of Azal in the 1971 story The Dæmons. Made of stone, he was bulletproof. He was blown apart by a UNIT bazooka, but reformed moments later. He reverted to his statue form when Azal was defeated.

Bok was played by actor Stanley Mason.

C ~ 'Castrovalva' - The freshly regenerated Doctor is in a vulnerable state, and the Master has escaped after the events of 'Logopolis'. His regeneration failing, the Doctor and his companions go to the city of Castrovalva to let him recover, but a trap waits for them there.

Synopsis

For 200 years the secret of Devil's End village has lain dormant, as the burial mound, the so-called Devil's Hump, has remained sealed. Until now, at midnight on April 30th on the greatest occult festival of the year, as Professor Horner prepares to break it open. But just what evil treasures lie buried there? Will the local white witch's warnings of doom and destruction be fulfilled? Who or what is the mighty Azal? But even more disturbing for the Doctor and Jo, just how is the Reverend Magister, alias the infamous Master, involved in the mystery?

E ~ Exxilon - Exxilon was an ancient planet, significantly older than Earth and featued in the Third Doctor serial 'Death to the Daleks'. It orbited a sun which was both larger and closer than the sun of Earth. Its sky was copper in colour. Due to the influence of the Great City of the Exxilons, it was a barren planet, covered in deserts, sand dunes and rocks. The seas had dried up, leaving behind few lakes. It was bitterly cold during the night and unbearably hot during the day. There was little in the way of life on the planet. Exxilon was rich in Parrinium.

F ~ Frontios - 1984 story starring Peter Davison as "The Doctor", Janet Fielding as "Tegan Jovanka", and Mark Strickson as "Vislor Turlough".

Synopsis

As a strange force takes hold of the TARDIS, the Doctor and his friends find themselves grounded in the inhospitable planet of Frontios, where the last survivors of the human race scratch out a desperate existence far away from their long dead homeworld.

The colonists are gripped by fear and paranoia as the planet is battered by attacks from space and they watch as the bodies of their dead are sucked into the ground. But the Doctor only appreciates the true gravity of the situation when he finds that the TARDIS has been destroyed...

G ~ Great Vampire - The Great Vampire is one of the many Vampire lords. It is the last of its kind, the rest of them having been killed by being shot with large metal spears launched by spacegoing warships known as 'bowships'. The Doctor killed the last one in 'State of Decay' with one of the scoutships from the lords tower, actually a grounded space vessel.

H ~ Hollway, Grace - Grace Holloway is a doctor and cardiologist. She appeared in the 1996 TV movie, Enemy Within. When the 7th Doctor lands on 30 December 1999 in San Francisco, he is gunned down by a gang on the streets of Chinatown. Unaware of his alien physiology, Grace accidentally kills him when she attempts to operate. He subsequently regenerates into his eighth incarnation, and involves Grace in his fight to prevent the Master from opening the Eye of Harmony and destroying the Earth at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Day, 2000. At the end, the Doctor offers to take Grace along with him in the TARDIS, but Grace declines, preferring to stay behind and apply the lessons she has learned from him.

Grace Holloway was played by actress Daphne Ashbrook.

I ~ Ianto Jones - Ianto Jones acts as Torchwood Three's "general support officer". His job entails manning the reception desk in the Information Centre that acts as a cover, administering the computer systems, serving coffee and tea, receiving reports and cleaning up loose ends – such as covering up deaths and destroying information that could trigger "retconned" memories. While he primarily functions as an administrator for the team's headquarters, Ianto does, and is fully able to, accompany the team on investigations.

J ~ Jackson, Maria - Maria Jackson was a regular character of The Sarah Jane Adventures. She is a 14-year-old girl who discovers that her new neighbour, Sarah Jane Smith, is aware of the existence of extraterrestrial life and is a former space and time traveller. Maria first appeared in the 2007 TV movie, Invasion of the Bane. She joined her in to her investigations in to paranormal and extraterrestrial activity.

Maria made her last regular appearance in the Series 2 première story The Last Sontaran after her father, Alan, received a job offer in America and subsequently moved there.

Maria Jackson was played by actress Yasmin Paige.

K ~ Krillitane - The Krillitanes are an alien race that first appeared in the 2006 episode 'School Reunion', featuring Anthony Head as the leader of the Krillitanes. They had infiltrated the Deffry Vale comprehensive school on present day Earth, increasing the intelligence of the pupils with Krillitane oil. Using the children as part of a giant computer programme, they hoped to crack the secrets of the Skasis Paradigm, the Universal Theory that would give them control over the basic forces of the universe and turn them into gods. Their scheme was foiled by the Tenth Doctor and his companions, though not before they attempted to ask the Doctor to join them in remaking the universe. This conversation showed that the Krillitanes were aware of the Time War, of the Time Lords and of their fate. This ruse failed as miserably as the main plot of the Krillitanes.

The Krillitanes are a composite race who pick and choose physical traits they find useful from the species they conquer, incorporating them into their own bodies. When the Doctor last encountered them they looked like humans with very long necks, but by the time of 'School Reunion', they possessed a bat-like form which they obtained from the conquest of Bessan ten generations prior. However, they were able to maintain a morphic illusion of human form, which could be discarded if needed.

A side effect of their rapid evolution made the very oil they were using to enhance the intelligence of Deffry Vale's children toxic to their own systems, reacting with them like an acid. As bat creatures, they sleep in a way similar to Earth bats, hanging from a ceiling with wings covering their bodies. Like Earth bats, they are sensitive to loud or high frequency noises, as demonstrated when they were temporarily disabled by the school's fire alarm. They are also carnivorous and have no qualms in devouring other sentient life-forms for food.

L ~ Long Game, The - 2005 story starring Christopher Eccleston as "The Doctor", Billie Piper as "Rose Tyler", and Bruno Langley as "Adam Mitchell".

Along with new companion Adam, the TARDIS deposits the 9th Doctor and Rose on Satellite 5, a space station that broadcasts across the entire human empire. However, the Doctor senses things wrong on the station: there are no aliens, those who are promoted to Floor 500 simply disappear, and who is really in charge?

M ~ Macra - The Macra first appear in the 1967 Second Doctor story 'The Macra Terror'. They are an intelligent, giant crab-like species from an unnamed planet colonised by humanity in the future. The Macra invade the control centre of the colony and seize the levers of power without the colonists — including their Pilot — knowing what had happened. Thereafter the Macra only appear at night, when the humans are in their quarters, observing a curfew. They have strong hypnotic powers which alter human perception. They also have the ability to ensure messages are vocalised through electronic apparatus such as television or sensor speakers. Both these tools are used to keep the human colonists under control, believing they are blissfully happy. This provides a cover for the Macra to use the colonists as miners in a vast gas mine. The gas is deadly to the miners but vital to the Macra, enabling them to move more quickly and rejuvenating their abilities. The Second Doctor effects a revolution on the Macra planet and helps engineer an explosion in the control centre, destroying the Macra in charge.

The Macra also feature in the 2007 episode 'Gridlock'. In the episode, some Macra are found to be alive below New New York, a city of New Earth. They live in the thick fog of exhaust gases on the main motorway under the city, tracking the flying cars by their lights and snatching at them when they get too close. The Doctor says that the species is billions of years old and once developed a mighty empire as "the scourge of this galaxy", but the Macra beneath New New York must have devolved into nothing more than beasts.

N ~ Nightmare Child, The - The Nightmare Child is an obscure object, location, area, or living creature, of which very little is known. According to the Doctor, Davros' ship flew into its "jaws" during the first year of the Time War, supposedly destroying him and his ship in the process. This event happened at the Gate of Elysium.

Dalek Caan, who escaped from 1930 using an emergency temporal shift, arrived in the Time War (despite it being Time-locked) and flew into the jaws of the Nightmare Child to save Davros from destruction.

O ~ Optera - The Optera appeared in the First Doctor story 'The Web Planet'. These caterpillar-like creatures were once Menoptra, but they elected to instead burrow under the ground and abandon the world of light and flight above. It is implied that they may have been driven there by the malevolent Animus.

They have larger eyes than their Menoptra brethren, and have no wings. However, they have numerous arms and appear to "hop" in a stylised way (although whether or not they actually have legs is unclear). They speak with inflection different to that of their bee-like cousins, but their speech is a strange dialect of the language of the "upper world" and words and phrases they have coined for themselves (for example, when they refer to how they plan to dig a hole in a wall they say, "We shall make a mouth in it.")

At the story's end, the Animus is defeated and the Optera are persuaded to return to the surface, where they look forward to their children learning the joys of flight; implying that once back on the surface the Optera will redevelop wings. It is assumed that all of species indigenous to Vortis are now living peacefully together.
