S ~ Seal of the High Council - A round metallic object emblazoned with the Seal of Rassilon, this symbol of Time Lord authority was given to the Master in 'The Five Doctors' to prove to the Doctor that he was working with the Time Lords and not against them. The third Doctor believes that the Master has stolen it from the Time Lords and takes it from him. When the Master tries to explain to the fifth Doctor that one of his other selves has taken it he does not believe him.

T ~ Tenth Doctor, The - The 10th Doctor came in to existence after his previous incarnation absorbed the highly damaging powers of the Time/Space Vortex energy from his companion who was in danger of being consumed by them (Bad Wolf).

He wears a creased brown or blue pinstripe suit, shirt with or without tie, long overcoat, and converse trainers.

His companions have been Rose Tyler (whom he had inherited from his previous incarnation), Mickey Smith, Martha Jones, Captain Jack Harkness, and Donna Noble.

The 10th Doctor is played by David Tennant.

U ~ Untempered Schism - A gap in the fabric of reality, the Untempered Schism allows one to look directly into the Time Vortex. It is depicted as a stonework portal through which one sees the Time Vortex unaided. Gallifreyan children are taken to the Schism at the age of eight and made to face the Schism as a form of initiation into the Time Lord Academy. In a flashback during 'The Sound of Drums', the Master is seen looking into the Schism as a child, an event the Tenth Doctor describes as the moment the Master went mad. The Doctor says he was one who ran away, and never stopped.

V ~ Vashta Nerada - Vashta Nerada (literally: the shadows that melt the flesh) are microscopic swarm creatures which, when present in a high enough concentration, are totally indistinguishable from shadows, and use this to their advantage in approaching and attacking prey. They are described as the "piranhas of the air", able to strip their victims to the bone in an instant in high enough densities. The Doctor says that almost every planet in the universe has some, including Earth, and claims that they can be seen as the specks of dust visible in unusually bright light.

The Vashta Nerada featured in the 2008 2-part story Silence in the Library.

W ~ Web Planet, The - 1965 story starring William Hartnell as "The Doctor", Jacqueline Hill as "Barbara Wright", William Russell as "Ian Chesterton", & Maureen O'Brien as "Vicki Pallister".

The TARDIS is pulled off course by a mysterious force and trapped on the barren, desolate low-oxygen world of Vortis in the Isop galaxy. The Doctor, Barbara, Ian and Vicki are soon swept up in the struggles of the butterfly-like Menoptra, the original denizens of Vortis who were forced to flee the planet for the moon Pictos to escape the encroaching web of the Animus and its mind-controlled minions, the ant-like Zarbi and their living weapons, the Venom Grubs. With assistance from the caterpillar-like Optera, the devolved descendants of the planet's original inhabitants, the TARDIS crew and the Menoptra are able to destroy the Animus at the center of its web complex with the secret Menoptra weapon, the isotope-powered living cell destructor.

X ~ Xylok - A crystalline alien species. A Xylok crashed to Earth and remained dormant under the Earth for thousands of years until an eruption of Krakatoa freed a small piece of Xylok. Many years later, Sarah Jane Smith received a piece of the Xylok when she discovered it could communicate to her through her laptop. Sarah Jane built a larger computing system in her house attic and incorporated the Xylok in to it. She named her highly advanced computer "Mr. Smith".

Y ~ Yeti - The Yeti encountered by the Doctor, although resembling the cryptozoological creatures also called the Yeti, are in actuality alien robots. Their external appearance, that of a huge hairy biped, disguises a small spherical mechanism that provides its motive power. The Yeti serve the Great Intelligence, a disembodied entity from another planet, which tried to form a physical body in order to conquer the Earth. The Yeti are initially a ruse to scare off curiosity seekers, and later form an army serving the Great Intelligence.

They appeared in the 1967 story 'The Abominable Snowmen', the 1968 story 'The Web of Fear' and briefly in the 1983 story 'The Five Doctors'.

A ~ Anti-Cyberman Special Weapons - Anti-Cyberman Special Weapons are special rifles designed and developed by scientists from the Parallel Torchwood to fight the Cybermen, and brought to Earth during the Cyberman Invasion, subsequently being retained by Torchwood in case the Cybermen ever return from the void. Torchwood Three has a supply of these weapons in the Weapons Room (which was sealed during the event caused by Cyberwoman Lisa Hallett, where cutting off the Hub's power supply caused the facility to go into lockdown and prevent access to the weapons).

C ~ Chameleon Circuit - A component of a TARDIS which allows it to change shape to match its surroundings and remain inconspicuous. The circuit on the Doctor's TARDIS has malfunctioned, leaving it stuck in the shape of a 1950s-style British police box. Attempts to repair the circuit have led to unpredictable results, including the TARDIS taking on the form of a pipe-organ (on which The Doctor sarcastically plays a few notes of J.S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor). Since these episodes, the Doctor has said that he has become fond of the Police Box form ('Boom Town'), and so has stopped trying to repair it. The TARDISes owned by the Master, the Rani, and the Meddling Monk had fully functioning chameleon circuits.

D ~ Dematerialisation Circuit - Component of the TARDIS Console which was first seen in the 1971 story Terror of the Autons. When the Doctor was exiled to 20th century Earth by the Time Lords, the 3rd Doctor worked on the Dematerialisation Circuit to escape. After 3-years of exile, the Doctor was finally given a new one by the Time Lords after he defeated the long thought lost Gallifreyan legend Omega in the 1973 story The Three Doctors.

E ~ 'Earthshock' - The TARDIS arrives on Earth in the 26th Century in a cave system containing numerous dinosaur fossils. The Doctor's party comes under suspicion from a military force, led by Lieutenant Scott, who are investigating the disappearance of a group of palaeontologists and geologists. They are all then attacked by androids - the true culprits - under the control of the Cybermen.

The Doctor manages to deactivate a bomb intended by the Cybermen to destroy an imminent peace conference. He then follows the bomb's activating signal to an approaching space freighter, commanded by Captain Briggs, on board which it transpires that an army of Cybermen are concealed.

An attempt by Adric to thwart the Cybermen's plans result in the freighter being inadvertently sent millions of years into the past, where it explodes and causes the extinction of the dinosaurs - and also the death of Adric. The Doctor destroys the Cyber Leader by forcing into its chest unit some gold fragments from a badge previously worn by Adric.

G ~ 'Genesis of the Daleks' - The Time Lords intercept the transmat beam taking the Doctor, Sarah and Harry back to Nerva and deposit them instead on the planet Skaro at an early point in its history. There a Time Lord gives the Doctor both a mission to prevent or alter the Daleks' development so that they become less of a threat to the universe and a time ring that will enable him and his companions to return to the TARDIS once this is done.

Skaro is currently in the grip of a long war of attrition between its two humanoid powers, the Kaleds and the Thals. The Kaleds' chief scientist, Davros, has been experimenting to discover the final form into which his race will mutate - the weapons used in the war have already produced genetically scarred 'mutos', who have been consigned to the wastelands - and has devised a protective casing in which they can continue to survive. This is instantly recognised by the Doctor and Sarah as a Dalek.

Escaping from the bunker where Davros and his Elite, led by the sadistic Nyder, are based, the Doctor and Harry persuade the Kaled leaders to put the Dalek experiments on hold. Davros retaliates by conspiring with the Thals to destroy the Kaled city with a rocket. He then activates the Daleks and orders them to wipe out the Thals.

Some members of the Elite revolt, protesting at the genetic alterations that Davros has made to the Daleks, and they too are exterminated. The Daleks then seize control, killing the remainder of the Elite and ultimately Davros himself. Thal survivors detonate explosives at the entrance to the bunker, sealing the Daleks inside.

Having earlier passed up an opportunity to destroy the Dalek mutants at birth, the Doctor estimates that his intervention will have delayed their development by about a thousand years.
