C ~ Cardiac Surgeon - A cardiac surgeon is a surgeon who performs cardiac surgery - operative procedures on the heart and great vessels. The 8th Doctor's first companion, Dr. Grace Holloway, is a cardiac surgeon.

In the 1996 TV movie Enemy Within, the 7th Doctor was gunned down after becoming caught in the middle of a gang shoot-out in San Francisco. He is taken to hospital to be cared for and to have the bullets removed. The Doctor is wheeled into the operating theatre where his X-rays reveal two hearts which are racing wildly. The puzzled medical staff page the on-call cardiologist, Dr. Grace Holloway, who rushes back to the hospital and performs surgery on him to repair his heart (not knowing about his alien physiology). The cardiac surgery goes wrong and the Doctor appears to die on the operating table but, in actuality, he has stopped his hearts to escape the surgery and regenerate in the privacy of a morgue.

D ~ Dalek-enhanced Thompson submachine guns - First seen in the Doctor Who Episode 'Evolution of the Daleks' and an amagamation of the Dalek Gun with 1930's Weapon Technology, these weapons were carried by Dalek-controlled Humans and were powerful enough to penetrate Dalek Armour and kill the mutants inside. A couple of these weapons can be seen in the weapons section of Torchwood Three in 'Adam'.

F ~ Fob Watch - A fob watch, engraved with Gallifreyan symbols, used to store the memories and biology of a Time Lord who uses the Chameleon Arch. The watch uses a perception filter to prevent the transformed Time Lord from noticing it. Those with telepathic abilities are apparently immune to the filter, as are those already aware of the watch's nature. The Family of Blood can also smell the Time Lord stored within. When opened by the Time Lord, it restores their original physiology. Anyone else opening it gets flashes of the memories stored within.

I ~ Iceberg - Book of the New Adventures range written by former Cyber Leader actor, David Banks. It featured The 7th Doctor against the Cybermen.

Iceberg serves as a sequel to the 1968 TV story The Invasion (set in 1969) and the 1966 TV story The Tenth Planet (set in 1986).

In 2006 the world is about to be overwhelmed by a disaster that might destroy human civilization: the inversion of the Earth’s magnetic field. Deep in an Antarctic base, the FLIPback team is frantically devising a system to reverse the change in polarity.

Above them, the SS Elysium carries its jet-set passengers on the ultimate cruise. On board is Ruby Duvall, a journalist sent to record the FLIPback moment. Instead she finds a man called the Doctor, who is locked out of the strange green box he says is merely a part of his time machine. And she finds old enemies of the Doctor: silver giants at work beneath the ice.

J ~ Journal of Impossible Things, A - A dream diary of sorts, containing notes and sketches by the Tenth Doctor's human persona, John Smith, in "Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood". The title is handwritten on the journal's first page. Referred to by Smith as "stories", it is shown on screen as scribbled words and what appear to be charcoal pencil sketches, recording what Smith remembers about his dreams of adventures as the Doctor, primarily those of the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. Joan Redfern retains the Journal at the end of "The Family of Blood".

The Journal also features sketches of the TARDIS interior and exterior, a sonic screwdriver, hexagons resembling the Torchwood Institute logo or Gallifreyan lettering, K-9, Rose Tyler, Autons, Clockwork Droids, Cybermen, Daleks, the Moxx of Balhoon, gas-mask zombies from "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances", and the Slitheen.

Repeated phrases describing key concepts (such as "magic box", referring to a picture of the TARDIS) abound in the handwritten text, along with many misspellings.

K ~ Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang - Series 2 première episode of Torchwood. For Captain Jack Harkness, this episode takes place almost immediately after the events of Doctor Who's Series 3 finale story The Sound of Drums.

Following Jack's disappearance, the Torchwood team are determined to continue their work. But when they find themselves in a stand-off with a rogue alien, Jack arrives to save the day. Things are momentarily back to normal, until a face from Jack's past reappears. Time Agent Captain John Hart causes havoc as he goes in search of a hidden artefact. With Gwen's life in danger, and cluster bombs scattered across the city, can the team be sure that Jack is on their side?

L ~ Laser spanner - A device which was owned by the Doctor until it was stolen by Emmeline Pankhurst, whom the Doctor referred to as a "cheeky woman". Martha Jones initially believed she had coined the term as a joke upon being introduced to the sonic screwdriver.

                        M ~ Medusa Cascade
The Medusa Cascade was mentioned by the Master in "Last of the Timelords" and has been mentioned in both "Partners in Crime" and "Fires of Pompeii". More worryingly, whenever the Medusa Cascade has been mentioned, there is also the reference to a planet gone missing.
Teselecta: "Silence will fall when the question is asked."

Doctor: "And what is the question?"

Teselecta: "How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"

                        Doctor: " *Brainfart* ".

N ~ Nyssa - Nyssa was created by writer Johnny Byrne for the 4th Doctor story The Keeper of Traken, but the production team subsequently decided that she should join the Doctor on his travels. Hence in the following story Logopolis, Nyssa became a companion of the 4th Doctor and subsequently the 5th Doctor after her homeplanet of Traken was destroyed.

Nyssa's adventures with the Doctor come to an end in the 1983 story Terminus. She elects to stay on board A Space Station in order to help free the enslaved guards and turn the station into a real hospital. The Doctor is moved by this noble gesture and parts saying that he thinks she is very brave.

A vision of Nyssa appeared to the 5th Doctor during his regeneration in the 1984 story The Caves of Androzani and she also appeared in the 1993 charity special Dimensions in Time.

O ~ Organic computer - Referred to as such only on the Torchwood website, the computer used in the Hub is in fact alive. According to the website, the computer is as old as Torchwood itself — a piece of organic, living, intuitive technology light years ahead of anything on Earth. It salvaged what it could, and continues at the heart of our work today. The computer managed to salvage information from the fall of Torchwood One, and is capable of incredible intuitive feats such as individual tracking, weather monitoring, GPS-navigation and the detection of all things extraterrestrial. The computer has been visible several times on the series, where it is shown (as it seen on the Adobe Flash version of the website) to be a pulsating, blue mass with many tentacles networking various pieces of information. In "They Keep Killing Suzie", it is established that the computer's membrane can still recognise commands even without power. In "Captain Jack Harkness", Owen is confident that the computer's artificial intelligence is smart enough to not require precise codes, and in "End of Days", it requests retinal scans to operate the Rift Manipulator.
