        P ~ 'Pirate Planet, The' - First broadcast in four weekly parts from September 30 to October 21, 1978. It forms the second serial of The Key to Time.

        The Doctor and Romana find that the second segment to the Key to Time is on the planet Calufrax. Yet they arrive on a planet called Zanak, which has been hollowed out and fitted with hyperspace engines, allowing its insane half-robot Captain to materialise it around other smaller planets and plunder their resources.

          Q ~ Quantum Archangel, The - Book of the Past Doctors Adventures range. The Quantum Archangel featured The 6th Doctor and Melanie 'Mel' Bush. It serves as a sequel to the 1972 TV story The Time Monster.

          Five thousand years ago, the Priest-Kings of Atlantis attempted to enslave Kronos, greatest of the Chronivores. They failed, with catastrophic results. Thirty years ago, the Master sought to do the same, and barely escaped with his life.

          London, 2003: torn apart by tragedy, the Doctor and Mel have gone their separate ways, only to find their paths crossing once more. While the Doctor tries to stop an old friend from making a terrible mistake, Mel is horrified to learn that her best friend has fallen under the influence of the Master.

          As the Master desperately tries to defend himself against the power of Kronos, the Doctor and Mel must overcome their differences. If they don’t, the Quantum Archangel will be triumphant. And if she is, nothing in the Universe will ever be the same again.

            R ~ Randomiser - The Fourth Doctor fitted this device to the TARDIS Console in 'The Armageddon Factor' to randomise his travel coordinates and prevent the Black Guardian from finding him. The Randomiser was removed from the TARDIS and left on the planet Argolis in 'The Leisure Hive'.

              S ~ Savages, The - 1966 story starring William Hartnell as "The Doctor", Peter Purves as "Steven Taylor", and Jackie Lane as "Dorothea 'Dodo' Chaplet".

              This story marks the last appearance of Peter Purves as "Steven Taylor".

              Materialising on an idyllic world, the Doctor, Steven and 'Dodo' are welcomed by the apparently highly civilised Elders and taken to their capital city. However, on a tour of the city 'Dodo' discovers that the Elders have a terrible secret.

              The Elders' advanced society is maintained by draining the life force and energy from a group of primitive Savages who share the planet. While the Doctor decides he must try to prevent the exploitation of the Savages, the leader, Jano, has other plans.

                T ~ Time Ring - Given to the Fourth Doctor in 'Genesis of the Daleks' by the Time Lords so that he could escape Skaro on successful completion of his mission to avert the creation of the Daleks. The Doctor, Harry Sullivan, and Sarah Jane Smith use the Time Ring at the end of the adventure and are taken to the Nerva station where they go on to participate in the events of 'Revenge of the Cybermen'.

                  U ~ UNIT - An acyronym. It stands for UNified Intelligence Taskforce (previously standing for United Nations Intelligence Taskforce until receiving a name change sometime between 2006 and 2008).

                  UNIT began operating in 1968 following major alien incursions in 1963 (as seen in the 1988 story Remembrance of the Daleks) and 1965 (as seen in the 1968 story The Web of Fear). It's purpose is to investigate and combat paranormal and extraterrestrial threats to the Earth. The UK's branch of UNIT was commanded by Brigadier Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart until 1976 when he retired.

                  UNIT received its baptism by fire in 1969 after fighting off an attempted invasion of Earth by Cybermen (as seen in the 1968 story The Invasion.

                  UNIT's most noted personnel have included:

                    V ~ Validium - A living metal created on Gallifrey that has the power of life and death. It appears in the serial 'Silver Nemesis'.

                    The Doctor explained that Validium was created on Ancient Gallifrey by Omega and Rassilon as the ultimate defence, Some of it however left Gallifrey.

                      W ~ Warrant Officer - Military Non-Commissioned Officer rank. John Benton, the senior NCO at UNIT was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer sometime prior to the 1974 story Robot.

                        X ~ Xeros - Planet featured in the 1965 serial 'The Space Museum'.

                        Xeros, a subjugated planet in the Morok Empire, now home to a vast museum and a young, rebellious population.

                        The Doctor and his companions experience something strange after they land on the planet Xeros. Shattered glass mends itself, footprints fail to materialize in the sand, and everything is silent. And then, inside a gigantic museum, they find something even more alarming: themselves.

                          Y ~ Ycarnos - Warrior king from the planet Krontep. He lived in the 23rd century.

                          In the 1986 story The Trial of a Time Lord: Mindwarp, Ycarnos captured and taken to the planet of Thoros Beta where he became a subject for a scientists brain transfer experiments. He was freed by the 6th Doctor. When the Doctor was pulled out of time by the Time Lords to attend trial, he left his companion 'Peri' Brown behind. It was later revealed in The Trial of a Time Lord: The Ultimate Foe, that Ycarnos has married 'Peri'.

                          It was later revealed in the New Adventures book Bad Therapy that they've separated and the Doctor (now in his 7th incarnation) returns her to 20th century Earth.

                          Ycarnos was played by actor Brian Blessed.

                            Z ~ Zolfa-Thuran - A cactus creature from the Forth Doctor Serial 'Meglos'.

                            The Fourth Doctor and the second Romana become involved with the plans of Meglos, the sole and last inhabitant of Zolfa Thura. The cactoid needs the Doctor as a pawn in his struggle with the neighbouring planet of Tigella in order to recapture the lost Dodecahedron, which is the secret energy source that will make Meglos feared throughout the galaxy.

                              A ~ Alpha Centauri - Alpha Centauri is an alien delegate for the Galactic Federation.

                              Alpha Centauri is a hermaphroditic hexapod from Alpha Centauri. It is tall, green, has one large blue eye, six arms and a high-pitched voice, wears a long yellow cape and walks with a nervous gait. It is prone to cowardice and hysterics. It has a low opinion of Earth, describing it as a "'remote and unattractive" planet, but regrets that its appearance can frighten humans. It regards females as unimportant.

                              It appeared in the 1972 story The Curse of Peladon and the 1974 sequel story The Monster of Peladon.

                              Alpha Centauri was played by Stuart Fell and voiced by Ysanne Churchman.

                                B ~ Blue crystal - In 'The Green Death', the Third Doctor takes a perfect blue crystal from the planet Metebelis Three, which has the ability to focus and amplify thoughts. He gives it to Jo Grant as a wedding present, but she sends it back to him in 'Planet of the Spiders', setting in motion a series of events that end with the Doctor's regeneration.
