      E - Eight Legs

From Planet of the Spiders- Season 11

The Eight Legs were black spiders, generally less then a metre in length, though the Great One achieved a much larger size. The Eight Legs relied on Human mounts for transport, though they could scuttle along at walking pace. The Eight Legs could create webs like the spiders of Earth, though they were not sticky and are merely tough. They also fed on the flesh of living creatures, generally the sheep of Metebelis III, though they preferred Human meat.

The Eight Legs could speak through telepathy, discharge psychic energy and teleport through both time and space. To teleport further distances required more spiders to focus their wills.

They could ride on the backs of Humans, turn invisible and possess the Human who could act as a vessel for the Eight Leg's power. They could, for example, project psychic energy blasts, the strength of which varied according to the strength of the victim.

F ~ Family of Blood ~ The Family of Blood was a family of hunters who followed the Doctor in order to take his near-immortality. The Family of Blood were green, gaseous entities that could inhabit and control Human bodies. Before taking human form, the members of the Family of Blood were kept in small, spherical receptacles. They had very short-lifespans, lasting only 3 months.

H ~ Haemovore - Haemovores appeared in the Seventh Doctor story 'The Curse of Fenric' (1989).

Vampiric creatures that fed on blood, they were the end result of human evolution in a possible far future, caused by millennia of pollution. As part of his final game against the Doctor, the entity known as Fenric transported the most powerful Haemovore (called the "Ancient One") through time to Viking Age Northumbria. There it waited, trapped beneath the North Sea for centuries, occasionally drawing victims into the water and transforming them into Haemovores.

K ~ Kamelion - Kamelion was a shape-changing android who first appeared in the 1983 story The King's Demons. Used by the the Master, he went on to travel as a companion to the Doctor.

Kamelion was the creation of Gelsandorans. Kamelion was the tool of an invader of the planet Xeriphas. When the Master was trapped on that planet, he discovered Kamelion and used him in his next encounter with the Doctor. Although Kamelion was sentient to a degree, it was also extremely weak-willed, and therefore open to manipulation by any strong personalities around it. The Doctor freed Kamelion from the Master's grip, and it joined the Doctor in the TARDIS. Kamelion preferred to remain in the TARDIS for fear of being taken over by a stronger personality and used against the Doctor.

In the 1984 story Planet of Fire, Kamelion eventually fell under the Master's remote influence in Lanzarote and assumed the shape of Peri's loathed stepfather Howard Foster and then the Master himself. In the end, Kamelion begged the Doctor to end its life. The Doctor reluctantly honoured that request.

Kamelion was voiced by the late Gerald Flood.

O ~ Opera Glasses - These are a small set of binoculars that the Doctor carries with him in 'The Empty Child', as well as in the novel 'The Nightmare of Black Island'. In the latter, he uses them to gain a closer view of Ynis Du's lighthouse. The actual origin of the glasses are unknown; however, the fact that they are described as having "computer-enhanced lenses" suggests that they are a product of some future time.

Q ~ Quantum-locking - Quantum-locking is a feature gained by species through evolution. The only known species to evolve this ability were the Weeping Angels who appeared in 'Blink'.

If a creature is quantum-locked, then they are turned to stone whenever they are observed. However, if the observer turns away, blinks or stops observing them in any way, the creature can move for the time until the observation resumes.

If two creatures are quantum-locked and are facing each other, they must be careful to cover their eyes before they are turned to stone. If they don't, they risk looking at each other, and being that they are both being observed by the other, they would be trapped in stone form.
