C ~ Celestial Toymaker, The - The Celestial Toymaker was a powerful being who ensnared sentient beings in apparently childish games, with their freedom as the stakes. However, the Toymaker hated to lose and the games were always rigged in his favour. The Toymaker once claimed to be the embodiment of one of the fundamental forces of the universe, much like the Guardians of Time. Whereas the White and Black Guardians personified the absolutes of morality, however, the Toymaker was the avatar of games and illusions, known as the Crystal Guardian.

Within his realm, the Celestial Toyroom, the Toymaker commanded immense powers, but they were limited by the rules he set for any particular game. He himself was immortal and invulnerable, and appeared capable of space and time travel at will. For some reason he chose to appear in the guise of a middle-aged Caucasian Human dressed as a Chinese mandarin. During the course of a game, one of the players might die outright or they might lose, in which case, the Toymaker would have total control over their life and personality, perpetually.

During the latter days of the Doctor's first incarnation, the Toymaker drew the Doctor's TARDIS to his realm and made the Doctor and his companions Steven Taylor and Dodo Chaplet play his games. The Toymaker arranged things so that even if they won, the Toyroom would collapse around them at their moment of victory, leaving him the consolation of being the only survivor. The Doctor was able to outwit the Toymaker and escaped, leaving his realm in chaos.

D ~ Davros Davros is an archenemy of the Doctor and is responsible for the creation of the Doctor's deadliest enemies, the Daleks. Davros was created by screenwriter Terry Nation.

Davros is a scientist from the planet Skaro whose people, the Kaleds, were engaged in a bitter thousand-year war of attrition with their enemies, the Thals. He is horribly scarred and crippled for reasons that are never explained on-screen, with only one functioning arm and one cybernetic eye mounted on his forehead; for much of his existence he depends completely upon a self-designed mobile life-support chair which encloses the lower half of his body. It would become an obvious inspiration for his eventual design of the Dalek. Davros's voice, like those of the Daleks, is electronically distorted. His manner of speech is generally soft and contemplative, but when angered or excited he is prone to ranting outbursts that resemble the hysterical, staccatissimo speech of his creations.

Davros is a megalomaniac who believes that through his creations, the Daleks, he can become the supreme being and ruler of the universe. He is a brilliant scientist who has demonstrated mastery of robotics, metallurgy, chemistry, artificial intelligence, cloning, genetic engineering, biology, physics, military tactics and cybernetics.

E ~ Exxilon - Exxilon was an ancient planet, significantly older than Earth and featued in the Third Doctor serial 'Death to the Daleks'. It orbited a sun which was both larger and closer than the sun of Earth. Its sky was copper in colour. Due to the influence of the Great City of the Exxilons, it was a barren planet, covered in deserts, sand dunes and rocks. The seas had dried up, leaving behind few lakes. It was bitterly cold during the night and unbearably hot during the day. There was little in the way of life on the planet. Exxilon was rich in Parrinium.

G ~ Gallifrey - Gallifrey is probably the most important planet in Doctor Who, being the home planet of the Time Lords. It was first seen (but not named) in 'The War Games' and first named (but not seen) in 'The Time Warrior'. It was destroyed in a Time War, wiping out all but two of the Time Lord race. It has burnt-orange skies and snow-covered mountains. It also had silver-leafed trees and red grass. It is said that the fragments of Gallifrey still revolve around its system's two suns in the form of a ring of rocks and dust.

H ~ Holloway, Grace - Dr. Grace Holloway is a San Francisco cardiologist and ally of the Doctor. She is also a member of the board of trustees for the Institute for Technological Advancement and Research.

After being hospitalized for minor gunshot wounds, the Doctor was X-rayed in preparation for surgery, and showed an abnormality -- a second heart. Called for her expertise, Holloway attempted exploratory surgery using a probe. The surgery appears to go wrong and the Doctor dies (actually the Doctor had simply stopped his hearts to escape the surgery and use the privacy of a morgue to regenerate). When the Doctor finally regenerated into a new form, Grace at first refused to believe he was the same man, but gradually became convinced, especially after watching the new Doctor extracting the remains of her probe from his chest.

She was possessed for a short while by the Master, during which time she betrayed the Doctor. She later unwillingly opened the Eye of Harmony inside the TARDIS and was in fact killed, but the Doctor used the Eye to bring her back to life.

In the end she decided not to go with the Doctor. After sharing a romantic kiss with her, the Doctor departed in the TARDIS and each of them went their separate ways.

J ~ Jones, Clifford - Clifford (or "Cliff") Jones was a part of the Wholeweal community in Llanfairfach, Wales. He fell in love with and got married to Jo Grant, though they later divorced.

Jo first knew of Cliff by reputation, as a brilliant Welsh scientist living at Wholeweal and investigating fungi. He was especially interested in their overlooked nutritional value so as a means to solve the problem of world hunger. Like the rest of the Wholeweal community, he opposed Global Chemicals and protested them at a public annoucement by their director, Stevens. Interested in him to the point of hero worship, Jo went to meet him and encountered him in his laboratory, though she did not know what he looked like and so was surpised to find that he was the scientist whose work she had just broken in on and interrupted and was not pleased with his abruptness towards her.

They spent some time in the Amazon looking for obscure fungi. Later, they had a son together, though by the 1990s they had been divorced.

Clifford Jones appeared in the 1973 story The Green Death.

K ~ Karn - Karn is home to the Sisterhood of the Flame. It is an almost barren world with a mountainous terrain that is often bombarded by fierce lightening storms, as seen in the serial 'The Brain of Morbius'. Through extensive research into the original series, it is suggested that Karn sits closer to its system's suns then its neighboring planet of Gallifrey, which lies in the same solar system as Karn.

N ~ Nuclear Storm Drive - The Nuclear storm drive was a type of engine that uses Nuclear power to drive a starship.

In the 2007 TV movie, Voyage of the Damned, a storm drive was the power source of the spaceship Titanic. Without the power of the storm drive, the ship would cease to function. And in such close proximity to a planet, for instance Earth, the planet's gravity would pull the ship to crash onto the surface. The effect could be disastrous, as it could wipe out all life on the planet.
