I simply can't resist its crack-tastic aspect. I love the humor of the show (even the unwanted sort, you know the occasional cheesy-ness ), it really makes me laugh.
So I got introduced to the Who-niverse via the spin-off series and its main character Captain Jack. I'm still fairly new to this fandom. But as I said I like it very much and I plan to explore it some more. I'm going to the U.K. on a business trip this autumn and I'd like to bring home at least one TW book along with Dr Who DVDs. I better start saving money now.

EDIT: I watched TVOTD at my friend's place (Yes, THAT friend). She convinced me that it's pretty much a stand-alone story and that I don't have to know any series 1-3 episodes to enjoy it. And she was right.
I've just seen your location. Sorry about that.

I'm glad you enjoy Torchwood and that you're going to be checking out Doctor Who more thoroughly. I've never met someone who's entered the Whoniverse through Torchwood before. Everyone I know came to it through the parent show - Doctor Who.

            No harm done.

You know, my friend thought that I might like Torchwood because a) it's a sci-fi show b) main characters are adults (no teenagers' escapades, thanks god for that) c) it has a team aspect, d) it's set in the present and e) it has humor. I admire her for her logic, she simply took all that I loved on SG-1 and found a new series that fitted the above description. (I suspect that she could no longer stand my whining about the end of SG-1 ) Anyway she got it right for the first time.
