      John Hurt Clear of Cancer

      http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2015/10...ce=twitterfeed

Actor John Hurt has spoken of his joy at being cleared of pancreatic cancer.

The actor, who played The War Doctor in the 50th Anniversary story Day of the Doctor, was diagnosed with the disease last Summer. However speaking at the Man Booker Prize ceremony on Tuesday night in London, he revealed he had recently been given the all clear by doctors.

I had a final scan and saw my oncologist and it’s all gone brilliantly. I am overjoyed, I am thrilled. It all looks great for the future, it’s fantastic.
The actor, who was knighted in the Queen's New Year Honours list, said he was wary of using works like remission, even if true.

It was announced last week that Sir John will reprise his role as The War Doctor, in a new range of audio adventures for Big Finish Productions, the first of which will be released later this year.

Time Travel TV Re-Releases Classic Spinoff Wartime

                http://www.kasterborous.com/2015/08/...inoff-wartime/

Exciting news for UNIT fans with the announcement that independent Doctor Who spin-off drama Wartime is to be available on DVD for very the first time!

Produced back in 1987, the film features fan favourite John Levene returning to play Benton, still serving with UNIT, who takes a spooky journey into his own past… Wartime’s cast also includes Michael Wisher, Nicholas Courtney in voiceover and an early appearance from Nick Briggs.

The drama was made by Reeltime Productions and was the first production of its kind from the world of Doctor Who. It also has the distinction of being the only independently produced drama to be made whilst the parent show was still itself in production.

The new release has been digitally remastered with a digitised stereo mix from Mark Ayres, and includes a special documentary feature covering the history of independent Doctor Who-based dramas. The first 500 buyers will be treated to a reversible inlay featuring both the original artwork and an action-packed new montage by Martin Baines.

Legend has it that production of Wartime was interrupted by a visit from local police who were responding to a report from a concerned local who’d spotted a truck filled with guns on a quiet country road in Lancashire.

Wartime is one of ten September releases from Time Travel TV, joining a number of their long-running Myth Makers series on next month’s release schedule.

K9 to Battle Omega in Movie “Timequake”

                    http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/k9-to-b...uake-77281.htm

The Doctor’s robotic dog, K9, is returning in a movie called “K9 Timequake,” set for cinemas in 2017.

                    Details:

K9, the world’s most famous robot dog traverses the dimensions of space and time to become the latest robot star of the big screen! Having made his TV debut nearly forty years ago in the 1977 Doctor Who TV serial “The Invisible Enemy” K9 went on to become one of the most iconic characters from the BBC series.

A new look high tech K9 for today’s cinema is being prepared for film stardom.

The film “K9-TIMEQUAKE” has been written by one of K9’s original creators; Bob Baker, a renowned writer of classic Doctor Who serials. Bob went on to co-write with Nick Park the Oscar and Bafta winning Wallace & Gromit series of film shorts as well as the feature film The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

The new K9 will be appearing in a multi-million dollar movie which promises to be a great action adventure set in deep space. The film will be full of dashing heroes and heroines, androids, monstrous aliens and an ultimate foe who will also be familiar to Doctor Who fans everywhere; the megalomaniac OMEGA.

The film is to be a UK co-production with exteriors filmed overseas and studio work planned for the UK.

K9 is the perfect character to star in a movie with a whole new bunch of action heroes making this a home grown Star Wars come Guardians of the Galaxy style cinema must see film.

The film is currently slated for release in 2017 which will be K9’s fortieth birthday!
Like the 2009-10 spin-off series, it is not a BBC production.

I have to say I'm really scratching my head over this one. They have a fantastic major villain in Omega, in a multi million dollar movie, and yet they waste him by getting him to fight it out with K9??? Plus there is no involvement from the BBC, and presumably they won't be able to reference Gallifrey or the Time Lords or the Doctor. I really don't know what to make of this.

I mean I love K9, but I really don't like the updated look the modern spin off TV show gave him. Is John Leeson going to be involved? It's all so bizarre.

I knew that there was going to be news about the future of K-9 but I did NOT see this coming! Cool! The more from the Whoniverse the better and the happier I am!

It is bizarre. I guess we can just wait for more details to come out about it.
Regarding Omega...he - like K-9 - is a creation of Bob Baker and Dave Martin so presumably they have all the rights to the character and can do with him what they want.

                            Yes, very true.

I hoped to see them again in the TV show. Will this movie put an end to those hopes I wonder?

Also what about Big Finish? Big Finish are doing an Omega story in the Gallifrey series at the moment. Will Big Finish still have the rights to do that? Is this movie the reason why Omega doesn't appear to be in Enemy Lines, out in May? I sincerely hope Big Finish have the rights to continue their story.

I'm sorry, but that sounds bloody awful.

Another sunrise with my sad captains, with who I choose to lose my mind,
And if it's all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.

Steven Moffat has said recently he'd like to see K-9 back in Doctor Who so I guess it all depends on the negotiations between the BBC and Bob Baker. The same with Omega presumably. If there's a story that's worth bringing Omega back for so he can face off against the Doctor again I'm sure they'll negotiate for him too.

As for Big Finish...I guess the same thing really. Different media's but they still need to discuss the usages of K-9 and/or Omega over the table. But Bob Baker seems to have been pretty receptive to the ideas of both characters being used again either for Doctor Who or Gallifrey so I assume they would return.
