Don't worry. He has as much chance of becoming the Doctor as Paris Jackson.

Unfortunately, that does seem to be the case. Think you or Alan would make the front pages if you offered to do the role?

As a person, I agree entirely with you. But what's he like as an actor for the role?

            Comment

I have no idea. I haven't seen him in much & what I have seen always seems to me to be Russell Brand playing at being himself. Now while that worked for Tom Baker it isn't going to work here. With a history of promiscuity, drug addiction, alcoholism and self harming, he is not the sort of role model anyone would want.

It looks like this might be the story about the casting of the 12th Doctor that had been obtained by a Sunday newspaper. Obviously no official announcement from the BBC, so treat with the usual scepticism until proven otherwise. I'd be happy with this casting if true.

POSSIBLE CASTING SPOILER UNDER THE TAG (IF TRUE)

                Spoiler:
BBC asks James Bond star to be its new Doctor Who

                http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/cele...octor-Who.html

Rory Kinnear, who appeared in 'Skyfall', has been offered the role of Doctor Who when Matt Smith bows out.

When Matt Smith announced last weekend that he would bow out as Doctor Who in the Christmas special, many fans hoped that the BBC would use the opportunity to replace him with a woman or a black actor.

They are, however, likely to be disappointed, as Mandrake can disclose that the role of the 12th Time Lord has been offered to Rory Kinnear.

“He has been offered the part and we are waiting to hear if he will accept,” says my man in the Tardis. “He is the perfect choice.”

The 35-year-old alumnus of St Paul’s School, George Osborne’s alma mater, is the son of Roy Kinnear, the celebrated actor.

He played the MI6 officer Bill Tanner in Skyfall and Quantum of Solace, the James Bond films, and won acclaim for his stage performances in productions of Othello, Mary Stuart and Hamlet.

When he was asked about rumours linking him with the Doctor Who role in April, he admitted that he had never watched the programme. “I think I’m being used as a decoy on that front,” he said. “It’s the first I’ve heard.”

Kinnear was praised for his performance as Sir Denis Thatcher in The Long Walk to Finchley, a BBC drama about the early years of Baroness Thatcher’s career.

Before St Paul’s, Kinnear, who has a child with his girlfriend Pandora Colin, attended Tower House School in south-west London. Its alumni include the Hollywood stars Tom Hardy, who played Bane in The Dark Knight Returns, and Robert Pattinson, of the Twilight films. After passing his A-levels, he read English at Balliol College, Oxford, before attending drama school.

Kinnear’s father starred in The Three Musketeers opposite Oliver Reed and Michael York and was known for his appearances in such television programmes as The Dick Emery Show and Man About the House. It was during the filming of the second Musketeers sequel that he died in 1988.

His mother, Carmel Cryan, played Brenda Boyle in EastEnders, while his grandfather was the Scotland rugby player Roy Muir Kinnear. Michael Williams, the late husband of Dame Judi Dench, was his godfather.

Smith, 30, who has been the Time Lord since 2010, said it had been “an honour” to play the part. He was the youngest to win the role when he replaced David Tennant, who took over from Christopher Eccleston.

Alongside Ben Daniels, this actor was amongst the top of my list of actors I'd like to see play the Doctor! If he gets the part I'd be extremely very happy!

Long before you and I were born, others beat these benches with their empty cups,
To the night and its stars, to the here and now with who we are.

Another sunrise with my sad captains, with who I choose to lose my mind,
And if it's all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.

If he's prepared to give the role 4-5 years (or more) of his career, he seems to tick the right boxes. Plenty of Bard-work under his belt. Use this to fund the rest of his stage career...
