Well I got those references directly. Most of them are pretty obvious. But of course they are funny. Like references to other movies.
Whilst we're at time travel: In the episode where Dean and Sam go back in time to save their parents Dean says something like:
"What do you want to tell them? That an angel goes Terminator on them? Those movies aren't even out, yet!!"

Stopped in Lawrence tonight on our cross country road trip. Lemme tell you something: there's no way in hell that our boys look as good as they do after driving hither and thither. That's the real Supernatural phenomenon in the show...
So, I was super amused at the statue in front of the Lawrence Visitors Center. A big a$$ scary angel. I couldn't stop giggling.
