The same guy whose idea it was to spend 20 minutes admiring the Enterprise from all possible and impossible angles in TMP? Which I enjoyed in spite of the wannabe-2001 slowness and the pajama uniforms. All I wanted from TWOK was for Khan to die as horrible a death as could be devised without being too gruesome compared to the rest of the movie.

Wikipedia nothing, the confirmation came from Trekmovie. I posted the link in the stickied Trek12 thread.

Explosion porn does not make a good film. Star Trek is and always has been about ideas and people.

TWOK was about friendship, family, getting old, coming to terms with things we can't change, death, and revenge. TUC is pretty much universally recognized for its spot-on Cold War (hello, key element of the TV series) and Chernobyl allegory, in addition to its more overriding themes of change and whether people fear or embrace it, forgiveness, and whether age really can make you outmoded. And both films couched deeply personal stories inside grand, sweeping events.

There's a reason why these are the movies that people remember. They resonate with people because they do exactly what science fiction is designed for: a fantastic setting in which to tell important human stories.

Well the news from trekmovie showed up on Memory Alpha which is a Wiki after all. But despite this, they could've chosen someone else than Khan. I mean, if they have to revisit TOS, go revisit some old eps not go directly to the movies.

TOS contains the most concentrated trek philosophy of any series until Voyager. If you don't like philosophy, you can skip it.

What is the nature of man?
How do Will, Logic and Emotion balance one another? (Kirk, Spock, McCoy)?

The interplay between the member of the troika and their philosophical modelings are what make TOS interesting.

Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy every Trek series(except maybe DS9).

I think the best Trek(if there is one) is either ENT, TOS or TNG.
I think that being on a starship going where no man has gone before is the point of the series. DS9 takes place on a space station, I just don't like the sound of it.

Star Trek is about exploring humanity and what defines how we are. The Enterprise was just a plot device to explore that just like the space station did in DS9

Ohh I dunno Jel, DS9 *to me* was more how the seeming "pure morals" of STARFLEET (not specificly the UFP) deal with things that are outside thier "domain".

AHA!! I went to trekmovie and I saw pics of Quinto fighting Cumberbatch(as Khan). Nothing can stop it now. I also know that the movie(released in 2013) will not have a number like the TNG movies. Klingons will be there, so will Nimoy(as Spock Prime). It's also true that the movie won't be a Space Seed reprise, it's gonna be something new and I can't wait to see it.

I did not! That's what I was alluding to when I said one of TUC's themes was forgiveness

Star Trek '13(both the 13th movie and 2013) is gonna be awesome. Why? Cos it's Star Trek and that makes everything awesome.
