^ Well, I will try and watch it soon as. It's the only Star Trek movie or episode I haven't seen yet. I probably will find some redeeming qualities in the film, I always do, even in some of the worst 'Trek films or episodes.

Spoiler:
Riker and Deana's wedding, that didn't even need to be there. I know some fans loved it, but it just kept the movie from getting going.....and the fancy dune buggy thing- it was completely pointless and again slowed the plot (ironic), but Data's line made it semi-worthwhile in the end (you know the one).....The real major problem I found with it was the pacing I guess- the editing could have been better, there were plenty of sequences that went on far too long, it defiantly could have been tightened up. Maybe that's because I was watching it with commercials, but I don't think that would have made much difference in the end. I liked the Romulan ship, and the climax was fantastic (I didn't mind Data's death, despite him being my favourite character), they did some cool stuff in it. And I loved the tone, it have a menacing tone throughout with all the eerie greens and such. I think it's more the first half of the film that I have a problem with. Both Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner were outstanding in it.
It just doesn't rate up there with First Contact, Undiscovered Country, Voyage Home, or Wrath of Khan. But I'll watch it a second time when it comes back on and see.

Actualy, i've read in the Star Trek encylopedia that the Enterprise - A was actually the USS Yorktown
WIKIPEDIA
At the end of the film, the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), which was destroyed in the previous film is replaced by the almost identical USS Enterprise-A (which Gene Roddenberry suggested was the USS Yorktown renamed, not a new starship constructed for them). While it was a popular moment, some viewed it as marginalizing the destruction of the previous ship. The filmmakers initially intended for the crew to receive the USS Excelsior (NCC-2000) (possibly renamed to Enterprise), but an unexpectedly large outcry caused this idea to be dropped.
Rimmer: 'I cant let you out'
Lister: 'Why not?'
Rimmer: 'Because the king of the potato people wont let me. I begged him. I got down on my knees and wept. He wants to keep you here, keep you here for 10 years'
Cat: 'Can we see him?'
Rimmer: 'See who?'
Cat: 'The king.'
Rimmer: 'Do you have a magic carpet?'
Lister: 'Yeah...a little 3 seater'
Rimmer: 'So let me get this straight, you want to fly on a magic carpet to see the king of the potato people, and plead with him for your freedom. And your telling me your completely sane?'

So, the Enterprise A was possibly a lot older. Is it official?? Possibly, since Roddenberry mentioned it.
The encylopedia was only saying the name Yorktown because it was a Constitution class. If you remember in ST:4 the USS Yorktown was disabled by the probe. The solar sail part in the movie was about the USS Yorktown.
