Wow, good catch. I look for that next time I watch the episode.

I think it was Kavanaugh who gave Will the box with the boy's clothing when Will met up with him near the end to return the file, so I don't think Helen was involved in obtaining the clothing for Will and Henry to look through.

Still, I'm pretty sure Helen does have her own contacts all over the city, including the police department. She seems to know the coroner who let her examine the bodies in the pilot, and she was able to get access to the security camera feed in Folding Man.

Yeah, I wonder if they'll ever explain that. It's interesting how they pass off the Sanctuary as a private institute. Clearly people know about it, but not quite what it is either. I liked that touch about renovating the south? Tower in the episode. Must have been interesting to be a contractor on that job.

Oh I hadn't realised that. I'll check that out when I watch again. This time on TV

LOL. Yeah, I can imagine the workers looking through the window and seeing Big Foot stroll by, or even coming to serve them refreshments. 'Scone?'

Thing about that picture of the Wraith...when I first saw it, it did not register as a Wraith, instead, I exclaimed - 'that's Dan Payne!' Kinda sad that I identify Dan, not as the handsome fella that he is, but as the nasty uberWraith from Sateda.

Just rewatching Edward today and I'm really liking director Brenton Spencer's work in the episode, I hope they can get him to direct more in season 2.

I loved the opening scene, starting from the close up of the mother, to the dead father, to the son on the bed, laying out the crime scene without any need for dialog.

In the Helen/Ashley shooting range scene, I loved the short canted angle shot when Helen is trying to get Ashley to talk to her. I also liked that when cutting between both women during their conversation, Helen and Ashley are both on the same side of the frame, while usually these back and forths are shot with the characters on the opposite sides to fill in the blank space beside them.

I thought it was a neat way of showing the deep bond between mother and daughter, that they're still on the same side, even as they have this confrontational scene together. Or it's just the amateur film critic in me over-analyzing things (I knew I was going to regret taking that film criticism class).

No, I think you're right. I didn't consciously think about it that way, but it did feel in character that they'd have the discussion in that setting. A good film maker imho will use such techniques in a way that doesn't jump out at you (unless you're a film student ) but helps convey the message and tell the story visually. Whether intentional or not, it went nicely with the previous episode's hands across the divide moment.

I am *so* loving Sanctuary! This was a wonderful episode.

--The "before my time" and "cheeky monkey" lines were hilarious.
--Interesting that Helen took Henry in as a child. For those that don't know the webisodes, it was briefly mentioned that Henry's ancestor (great grandfather?) was Helen's first weapons specialist and the idea was that Henry got the job through nepotism. I didn't think about it then, but changing the story to Henry being a foundling brings up an interesting notion - the people that Helen works with or has worked with in the past - they can't necessarily tell their families about what is going on at the Sanctuary. How would they know that their spouse/kids could be trusted with the secret? It made me think of parallels in Stargate - friends and loved ones don't know what any of them really do.
--Speaking of Stargate, I liked those little touches of the drawings of the Unas (which I did notice right away) and the Wraith (which went quickly enough for me that I thought - was that a Wraith? and then didn't think about it when it was gone). I have no problem with inside jokes. The executive producers/creators of the show are all from the Stargate family - for many years, no less. It wouldn't be the first show (scifi or otherwise) to have in-jokes. And to reference another webisode moment - there were some lines in the 4th webisode about jello. All the Sam Carter fans out there know that was for us.
--Wonderful performances all around. I liked how they handled the Helen/Ashley scene. I'm glad it wasn't totally resolved, but I'm also glad that Ashley sees Helen's side of things and can understand it. Oh yeah - and these two women on the shooting range - AWESOME.
--Very nice twist that the father actually killed himself. I was sure it was Edward that killed him, then I was sure Robbie did it.
--As for who retrieved the father's body - I felt sure that Helen arranged for it to be taken. She absolutely *must* have friends involved in law enforcement and other areas - there's no way she could be running the Sanctuary without having friends pulling strings. And the way Helen was talking to Will about doing whatever necessary to protect Edward and his mother, it sounds like she's had to step in and protect abnormals before.
--Love Henry's decision to stick it out and learn more about his "gift" instead of trying surgery to make him normal.

Another episode I loved, as others have said I enjoyed the cheeky monkey line.

I loved Helen's necklace, the one she wore at the beginning and end of the ep.

I would imagine that the work was probably carried out by a building company run by abnormals! It might be too much of a risk to let 'normals' on the ground for too long, it wouldn't be fair to the Sanctuaryarians to tell them all that they had to keep out of sight of any windows ect for however long the renovations took.

Just a random tidbit I am not sure anyone else mentioned.

The Unas is from the episode "Enemy Mine" - which is the episode that introduced Major Lorne.
: I would very much like to have a weapon such as this.
                          : Yeah, Get in line.

after a new 'house' episode -SO loving the house/cuddy ship!- i decided to watch 'edward' again.

it's really a very good episode. great acting all around.

my fave scene, though, was when edward entered the elevator and seeing a wild child and then monster, it's revealed that it's really henry. the direction and acting was very well done.

i feel like we're getting all these different flavors of what sanctuary's all about. this might have been of the cold case/law and order taste, but with the unique sanctuary spice. (how's that for metaphors?)

Heh, some days I kinda wish I were a film student, but I just took that one class. Still, it has changed how I watch TV/movies now, shot angles, lenses, editing techniques all jump out at me more than they used to. In the opening scene, one of my first reactions to the close-up of the mother was 'cool longs lens shot'.

I really liked that elevator scene with Edward and Henry too. I thought it was interesting that the direction was kinda similar to the opening scene (the birds-eye shot panning across the crime scene from the mother to Edward), and then a similar shot panning across the elevator from Edward to Henry. Not sure what it may mean, but I'll try to think of something when I'm not this sleepy.

Nice metaphor! I like to think of it as different threads that make up the fabric of the Sanctuary world, but flavors works too.

I do really enjoy the fact we're getting slightly different kind of of tone in the episode each week. Kush had mystery with the monster, Nubbins had the comedic effect of the nubbins, The Five had the action and mythology, and Edward had more of a crime-solving tone like Folding Man.

It looks like Requiem will have a mystery tone like Kush, but this time Magnus really gets to go crazy.

                                Hmmm...

                                1. Interesting to see the AS guy, felt slightly overdone but then again he was in a very unusual situation so I'll let that pass.

                                2. Liked the two sides of the same ability.

                                3. Henry's story is interesting.

                                4. Black SUVs picking up corpse. Cabal, has to be!

Well it beat's Atlantis's Brain Storm at least!
