Why not call her 'Ashara' or 'Tasha', or something that just sounds a bit more sensible?!
I know, Yara really doesn't fit her. Tasha would have been my first choice.

is it a legal reason? sometimes shows have that problem....stargate did a lot...anytime they had a 'real world' character they had to run the name through legal.....that's why Pete's job changed. He was a reporter in the first spoilers, but there was a pete shanahan that worked in colorado as a reporter, so he became a cop instead.

maybe there's a problem with the asha name?

Nah. I think the only reason is the 'possible' confusion w/ the Osha character.

Kinda annoying, since Asha's my fav. character in the book series. *shrugs*

Nice to see they found a role for him - he was originally supposed to play Pycelle in season 1, but had to drop out due to health reasons.

I haven't read the books yet, so I have no idea who most of these character are, but that doesn't dampen my excitement about reading casting updates.

However, I am disappointed about the changing of the book character's name. It seems unnecessary and it could be more confusing in the long run than if they had not made the name change. So what if there are characters with similar sounding names? There has to be a better reason for this decision.

It seems odd to me too. There are loads of names that are similar (or the same) in the books but the characters are easily identified because of the place/time they appear - it should be easier to distinguish them on TV because we can see the characters. I'd like to hear a reason from the producers...

Not 100% confirmed yet, but seems pretty certain, that Gilly has been cast and she is being played by Hannah Murray. For those who haven't read the books, to quote from Winter is Coming
Gilly is one of many young women living with old Craster (yet to be cast)—a crotchety and blunt “friend” of the Night’s Watch. Gilly has a secret that threatens to sunder the already-uneasy peace between Craster and the northbound Night’s Watch.

Now I'm wondering who they'll cast for the roles of Dolorous Edd, Ygritte, Balon Geyjoy and Craster.

Again not 100% confirmed, but it seems pretty certain that Ben Crompton will play the role of Eddison “Dolorous Edd” Tollett, again to quote from Winter is Coming
the Night’s Watch’s own version of Eeyore, always down but never out.
