Here's an interesting article that analyses both the positive and negative reviews of GoT

I think that article over analyses a bit myself, especially some of the comments at Winter is Coming. Certainly fan groups do not react well to negative reviews, but I this case a certain furore has erupted due to how the few negative reviews have been written, as they have been less about the show and more about bashing fantasy and those who like the genre. One basically says that the acting, the writing, the direction and the production values are all good, but because it's fantasy it's rubbish.

Sufficed to say the majority of reviews have been very positive and no show, even critically acclaimed stuff like the Wire or Boardwalk Empire, escapes a bad review. The bad reviews that Game of Thrones has got just confirm my opinion that the show will be good, none of three reviews that have been negative or lukewarm came up with any legitimate criticism, but seemed to focus their dislike on either the show being fantasy or having lots of sex and violence. Area's that I (and indeed many people) have no problem with.

I agree the author truely over analyses the reviews, though there are some interesting comments that argue some valid points.

Read that GoT has already become HBO's best-selling property outside of the US. That bodes well for a still not officially announced season 2

Indeed, start with Game of Thrones, get hooked on all the other great tv.
