    From Rolling Stone:

    Intergalactic Terror

Battlestar Galactica tackles terrorism like no other show

Civilization is under attack by religious fanatics -- and the fanatics are winning. There are suicide bombers, a clueless president and prisoners who get tortured by the good guys. No, this isn't a particularly grim night on CNN: It's Battlestar Galactica, the smartest and toughest show on TV. In its second season, this remake of the 1978 camp classic has become -- no joke -- TV's most vivid depiction of the post-9/11 world and what happens to a society at war.

Improbably, all this is happening on the Sci Fi Channel, best known for reruns of Knight Rider. Battlestar has achieved the channel's best-ever ratings and reached a heady new level of critical acclaim: Time just named it the best TV show of 2005.

In the past few seasons, series television has finally opted to deal head-on with terrorism, with varying degrees of success. The one mainstream hit, 24, gleefully sacrifices relevance (or coherence) for pure adrenaline. In its fictional world, torture is a panacea, providing catharsis for an audience facing a perpetual "war on terror."

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Aww, snap. After posting that, I went to AA's message board and found there's no plans for any figures.... yet. It appears that the license for the reimagined series is still held by someone else yet why haven't we seen any toys yet?

Oh, good news on the minimates (which I'll get to hold me over I guess) is there are full lines for both shows:

What's that? No Roslin or Helo? Boo! I guess we can get them in series 2 with Chief, Cally, Tigh, Billy, Dualla, and Gaeta. (wishful thinking, eh? ) I will get me a classic Apollo with Viper and a second Baltar (if he's in his suit) to make me a Tom Zarek

Mary McDonnell) is not simply a stand-in for Bush, but she was an unprepared chief executive -- forty-third in the line of succession -- who has lately turned to holy scriptures to guide her through a time of war. (Note, too, the number forty-three.)
I had never paid attention to that, and I wish they wouldn't have pointed it out. As much as I love this show, I'm afraid of it being ruined by being another show pointing out how evil Bush is, and that the united states is wrong.

I know this is kind of off, but What in the world has Kayne West suffered throught that is anything near a crown of thorns, and dragging a big wooden lower case t through the desert?

On a light note I read the article on another thread, and it was pretty good.

                Nice thanks.

Yeah someone said West talks about porn the whole time.

They should have put the Galactica cast dressed in the old TOS uniforms on the cover.

Wow! Ron Moore does not sound very happy on how the show came out.

People see what they want to see... I see few things in common with what is going on in our world today. The Colonials are losing and on the run. Whereas the US is chasing its enemies and far from defeat.

I think this is generally a marketing thing. Mention 9/11 and Bush-bashing, and you might possibly get more viewers (and probably lose many more)... But Is this what we want the show to turn into? West Wing in space? Or some crap like that? NO!

Wow, thats a great article. I had heard about it being mentioned in the Rolling Stone magazine, but thats awesome. IMO, it really I really think its the greatest show on TV. I think SG-1 and Atlantis are great, but wow, BSG... WOW.

Well, RDMcertainly trashed that one! Now I REALLY want to see it, as I have a sneaky idea I may enjoy it in spite of all the guilt-ridden anguish from its creator.
C'mon Ron -- I hope that "looking like television" isn't completely cut out of this relevision series

thoightful article, good to see in this influential publication.

But I bet the Galactica piece will be buried in the flak over the cover.
Rolling Stone is a pretty liberal mag, but my guess is that this cover will disturb even some of its regular readers. I'm trying to decide if it was a bold move or a dumb one.
