Given that the US has in it's constitution a distinct separation of church and state, don't you think that -that- is patently self delusional?
Extremely so. I was eating with my family and when they left, leaving me and my sister waiting for the bill, a man sat in the next table and began talking to us about God and the country. What I got from him was that his beliefs involve the nation, not God's people, not Spiritual Israel, and it wasn't about personal salvation. It was about God and the country. His "preaching" was so alien to me in that manner. I don't recall Jesus preaching that the Roman Empire needed God. I distinctly recall Jesus preaching an entirely different kingdom for a separate people that are "not of this world."
God really doesn't care about this or any other country nor is he interested in national politics. He is interested in what we as individuals do. In that sense, the separation of church and state becomes important even in a religious manner. As a Christian, this nor any other man made nation is truly my country nor am I truly a citizen of any man made nation.
Are all these not considerations that are viewed as "acceptable", but gays are somehow "special"? (and I don't mean special in a nice way)
I am not entirely sure what you are saying.
Sure, I agree. There -could- be good arguments against gay marriage. I disagree with the church being forced to do it if they believe that it is wrong. I can even see people not wanting to recognize it in the social environment, and that is their call.
What I cannot find is any reason to deny LGBTQ's the same rights and responsibilities -under the law- as any other group who decide to co-join their lives in a legal way, especially when their main reason for doing so, is for love.
Who am I, or you, or anyone to determine what constitutes love?
The question is based on a flawed premise. I don't decide what constitutes love. So in that, we are in agreement.
You go around shouting "Hetro Proud"? ...Do you shout "White Power!" too? Or do you recognise why that one is wrong?
Yes i have said "Hetro proud" in response to peole wearing "Gay and proud" shirts asking me if i wanted to 'donate' to some "fund drive to expand people's acceptance of Gay pride events..
And Yes i have shouted white power a few times. All in response to someone shouting Black power..

The issue to me on that Gatefan, is when they seem to ignore your constitutional right to practice your religion (as in all the bakery/florist etc cases), to 'prop up the LGBT's right to be married, by forcing those orgs to have to effectively go against their beliefs and support the LGBT marriage by catering to it.
Or when they do things such as have gay pride days, but seem to shout down anyone ever even asking about a 'straight pride' day (like i have had happen in relation to a white history DAY, to counter balance all the history months all other ethnicites seem to get)..
It in effect to us, IS making that one 'demographic' seem MORE worthy of 'equality" than others are..
But is your faith a function of your job?
A legal person swears to uphold the law, not the church, and I hold them to that.
By the same token, I hold a priest to put the tenants of their faith first.
On the surface they may look the same, but they really are not.
If your -job- has nothing to do with your faith, WHY is your faith an issue?
No, but neither do you give up your faith when you step out of the church and go to work.
The question is one -you- need to consider, not me.
Is a woman who terminates her pregnancy a murderer?
At what point is a foetus alive?
I tend to stick to the notion that if a foetus can exist independently of it's mother, then all notions of abortion should be -seriously- looked at. (and speaking personally, I am VERY critical of what could make a good argument for termination) Before that point however, I don't consider a foetus an independent being, it is a potential human. I am just as willing to slide to the other side and ask if people think having a wank is any less an act of a "murderer", let alone the natural, biological process of a woman having her period to eject what was a potential human from her womb.
Like you i consider a 'feteus' alive if it can support itself outside the mother, prior to that its IMO not truly alive. BUT in that case, i still see the double standard of why then is a murder of a pregnant woman in her first (or 2nd) trimester getting charged with 2 counts vice 1..
As to the wank aspect.. I have heard that argument before, by those wanting legal abortions. My argument is that an abortion is already a conceived person. Wanking and ejaculating sperm is not, as there is no egg to fertilize to make that conception.
Ok.
We can agree that any crime that would possibly merit the death penalty must be pretty bad, right?
Do you think Eye for an Eye justice is a viable concept in modern society?
Yes. I do feel its viable in a modern society. I believe prisons are made to PUNISH law breakers. Not that they are there to 'rehabilitate' them. And even if they were there for rehab, certain people are beyond rehabilitation, and certain crimes are harsh enough to demand an equally harsh penalty.
How are they being denied justice, if the penalty for murder is 20 years in prison, and the offender gets 20 years in prison?
Do you want justice?
Or do you want Vengeance?
Think about that for awhile.
With how many people these days seem to get 20, but only serve 10 (or sometimes even less) and then get out on parole, i don't see that as proper justice.
As to the Vengeance or Justice question. i would have to honestly say both. Justice in that they pay for their crime, Vengeance in that they die for killing someone else.
So what do you all think of the former Subway spokesperson Jared about to plead guilty to child porn charges? I think it's sick!
What Jelgate said.
He better hope they put him solitary or in the psychiatry ward, otherwise he'll won't live through his first week inside the joint. Which I wouldn't shed any tears over.

Practice all you like - just don't discriminate.
If you don't like catering to the blind, the deaf, the gay, the white, the black, the chinese, the men, the women... then don't come whining when your business goes down the drain.
And what days does it need to counterbalance, if I may be so curious?
Dont know yet. Have to wait for all the scary brown people to take over the world, oppress and enslave the white man for a few centuries, maybe rape and destroy large parts of his culture too; either erase or ignore any contribution or general part to history he makes that doesn't involve being under the evil brown mans boot heel, a background animal or the brief shock and amusement that comes when his superior brown overlord manages to teach him tricks. Then after fighting to be recognized as a human being, and then a human being with rights and finally a human being equal to his former brown masters maybe he might like to fight to have a day that actually acknowledges and celebrates his people and their contribution to society and the world in general and so on. Now, his former oppressors while seemingly oblivious to the fact that since their rise to power all history that has been taught has been their history the way they wanted it taught, might get grumpy about the annoying white mans insistent nagging and pestering to have himself recognized and so want his own day. But, we'll wait and see if he notices...
Although that might take a while and he might get impatient so how about a Tuesday?
On a lighter note, got to throw an abusive idiot out of A&E (thats the ER for you Americans) tonight
