The thing is that your assessment is wrong. The reason the prices of education are so high in the college level, for example, is because of the private sector. It appreciates the prices of everything. Take that out, and prices plummet. Marketing takes up a huge part of the budget for many universities, not the actual process of teaching. A lot of places are expensive for no reason other than that they are prestigious, you pay 50K a year just for the brand name itself. Harvard doesn't really teach anything different than Penn State. It just has higher standards and makes the students work harder but not smarter. Really, there is no point in going to Harvard unless you are going to be a lawyer or a gifted scientist or a business tycoon. And most of the value of Harvard for those careers isn't so much the quality of the education, but the connections you can get there.

People don't know how to navigate Colleges and often forget that that expensive private school has an inferior Ag science program than the local community college. Or that paying 100K a year for a low paying career makes zero sense whatsoever.

So? Just because you didn't get something no one else should? That argument is one I'd expect from a five year old, not a grown man.
The concept of paying your own way in this world is alien to you, isn't it?

Government funding of the secondary education system creates a number of problems.
I've suggested many times that the cost of college is astronomical because the government picks up the tab, and the industry management knows it, so they know they can jack prices as high as they want, their customers will just go that much farther into the hole. If their potential customers couldn't do that, they would have to keep costs down just like any other industry. There is also the matter of that financing giving the government a great deal of say in the curriculum of any school that gets those dollars. But that's another topic.

The socialist idea of free college for all will only make that worse. The industry will raise its prices even farther, knowing full well that it won't have any effect on attendance numbers.

But there's something else, too. If little Johnny or Jane is paying for their tuition out of their own pocket, they are likely to make better choices as to what they study. How many former students are on the hook for loans that they have no chance of paying off because they studied something utterly useless such as advanced navel staring or some such rot.

Freebies for all will make that situation much worse, too.

I call BS on that. I went to the public university system here and I paid 1.4k per sessions that's about 300$ per courses, so about 3k per year.

Ever heard of tuition as low as that? Right on the other side in Ontario, private universities go for 10k a session for the exact same sh*t.

      You can't argue with that.
      Spoiler:
I don’t want to be human. I want to see gamma rays, I want to hear X-rays, and I want to smell dark matter. Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can’t even express these things properly, because I have to—I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid, limiting spoken language, but I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws, and feel the solar wind of a supernova flowing over me. I’m a machine, and I can know much more.

What does that have to do with anything? How much did you pay for your high school? Nothing right?

Harvard is funded by the government? The expenses from higher ed are predominantly the private universities. State Universities are cheaper, not as Cheap as Canadian state universities but cheaper than American private universities. Community colleges are the cheapest, the average tuition per year is around $3K and their quality, depending on field and local variables, is actually quite good for its intended purpose.

This flies in the face of your claims. Not to mention that education in Europe and Asia and Latin America tends to actually be cheaper than here and there's more "socialization" in education in those areas...this also flies in the face of your claims.

In other words, none of your claims are supported by facts and are actually countered by what is actually going on here in the US and especially outside of the US.

The socialist idea of free college for all will only make that worse. The industry will raise its prices even farther, knowing full well that it won't have any effect on attendance numbers.
It hasn't made it worse elsewhere. The UK's higher ed system is way more socialized than Canada's and it is an excellent system too. Same with Germany and Israel and I am willing to bet that the same can be said about Japan.

But 100% free college isn't the only option. You could still have students pay like in some of the countries I reference, but at the end it's not totally private either. Our system is haphazard and not the result of any planing.

But there's something else, too. If little Johnny or Jane is paying for their tuition out of their own pocket, they are likely to make better choices as to what they study. Not the case elsewhere though...or rather this problem is one that you have imagined. You don't seem to understand how the free market works. I can go to college and get a degree in architecture and find myself flipping burgers because I just simply didn't get a job at a firm or couldn't start my own. That's what you really see happening.

You are dreaming up explanations and details about problems you hear about and then using these made up things to argue your point. It's hard to argue against a fantasy. So back it up with facts.

            Crooked little scumbag, isn't she?

            https://nypost.com/2019/04/27/aoc-ra...eens-fund-run/

Her new deal is all about the green, alright.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez held a 5k in Queens Saturday that she billed as “a Family Fun Run supporting U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal on the Saturday following Earth Day.”

But many of the 400 runners didn’t realize their $30 registration fees were going directly into the lawmaker’s campaign coffers.

“We’re getting together for our own health, for our planet’s health … and to fight for the Green New Deal together,” the freshman Democrat told the participants before they set off.

Environmentally conscious supporters — who jogged through Astoria Park alongside a beaming, strolling AOC — believed their money was going to help save the planet.

“It’s going to help raise awareness and educate people,” a female runner told The Post.

“I think it’s really for this particular New Green Deal,” said Brian Schwartz of Long Island. “No question.”

“It’s to help the environment. To support the Green New Deal,” another woman said. “It’s a good cause.”

A vaguely worded notices on AOC’s Facebook page — saying that the run would support “U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez & the Green New Deal” — worsened the confusion.

But the fine print on a third event-related website revealed the truth.

“Registration fees are contributions to AOC for Congress,” reads the legal disclosure on aoc5k.com, which lists the Federal Election Commission rules that donors must follow.

“It was a campaign fundraiser,” Ocasio-Cortez spokesman Corbin Trent said confirmed.

The participants paid more than $11,000 all told.

Even kids as young as 3 became unknowing political donors — ponying up $20 fees to join a kids’ 1k.

But by fudging the fact that those fees were actually campaign contributions, AOC may have enticed constituents into inadvertently breaking federal election laws.

Parents, for example, can’t contribute their own funds in a child’s name.

The amount raised is a drop in the bucket for AOC, whose superstar status and combative Twitter feed vaulted her into the fundraising stratosphere in the first quarter of this year, when she raised $726,000 through online solicitations.

But only 4 percent of that total came from constituents in her own district.

At Saturday’s event, 198 runners came from the Bronx and from Queens neighborhoods within the 14th congressional district. The other 200 came from elsewhere.

Those contributions will improve her home-grown fundraising share.

            Some participants felt fooled.

“The site says it’s to benefit her environmental plan,” said one supporter who would not give his name. “If it is going to go directly to her campaign they should have said so.”

            Another did not mind.

“Even if that’s so,” said a female runner of her money going directly to a campaign, “it’s because it’s her plan and she is the one we need to push it.”

Maybe that's your browser.... Works fine here.

Anyway the gist of it is the city of Darwin for whatever reason, maybe the 99 year port lease with the Chinese is going to install a facial recognition system across the city to watch everyone, much like the thing you see in Person Of Interest and part of that system was made by the Chinese because that's the system they have there with a "social points system" and yeah Australia sucks.
