I don't think you can hang the twitterverse on Trump, or any politician. The prior sorry occupant of the white house used it as well, but it wasn't an issue 'cause the MSM isn't allowed to criticize him.

The real blame belongs at the feet of the news media itself. They've gotten lazy. Rather than investigate a story, they just print whatever some idiot posts on social media (twice) and go have a beer.

Trump has been forced to communicate via social media by the media also; it's the only way he can communicate when the MSM is so badly biased, which is again, the media's fault.
