This has happened in state after state; NY, Colorado, California and others, and now Illinois. And there are movements afoot in all of these states to separate.

The large cities simply drown out the voices of the rural area, so that they don't have a voice in govt. It is very effectively a form of taxation without representation.
So is the EC in your limited vision.
The EC, as you view it is socialism to the max.

How do you figure? The EC gives a voice to the rural folks, preventing the urban areas from running over them. It's too bad that we don't have a way of doing that at the state politics level.
In case you have not noticed, it's the urban areas where socialism is getting the most support.

Here's another question. If this wasn't a problem, why is there such strong sentiment among rural folks in NY, Calif, Illinois, Colorado and others to throw the large cities such as NYC/Albany, Chicago, Denver and so forth out of their respective states? Why such a strong desire to escape their influence?

Also, in case you haven't noticed, this current push towards socialism is just a collective whine on the part of young skulls full of mush saying "Give me stuff for free".

Here's a hint, children. Your elders had to work for what they got, and you're no better. You can work for it too.

Just as a strategic issue, though, even if they are motivated to get off their couches and vote (unlikely for many of them) the older folks who did have to earn what they have outnumber them by a good bit.

How many people who did have to work for what they had are gonna be eager to vote for people who just want them to pay for stuff to be handed to the current crop of young whiners?

The idea that Annoyed had to work for anything is laughable. His generation could live comfortably with a single income provider. Saw it with both my grandfathers

I have abandoned nothing. I've been punching a time clock the vast majority of my life since I was 15 years old. And so have many other people.

Speaking for myself, and I suspect many other working folks, I'm not so fond of the idea of being taxed so that the Kindergartner can give crap to the current crop of whiners that don't feel they should have to work to put food on the table and so forth.

                      It's another false premise.

but take solace in that the elites of your country stood on your shoulders this whole time

If, by "elite classes", you mean people who work for a living or support themselves, you're right.

I freely admit that I don't give a rat's arse about some slob who is too lazy to work and just expects to be supported or who makes stupid choices that end up with him or her being unable to support themselves.

And no, I'm not talking about temporary assistance after a layoff or injury/etc. I'm talking about the endless horde of professional leeches. They can starve for all I care.
