I'm usually not big on watching Best Picture nominees but King's Speech was a wee bit different. I knew a lot about George VI's back story and I'd been meaning to watch King's Speech for a while. Honestly I usually don't bother either. I generally consider the Academy to be a bunch of self-aggrandizing, self-congratulatory asses. Well, turned off The Fighter after about 40 minutes. I enjoy blue-collar to a point, but there comes a point when it's so self involved that it's like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

Well as with anything, your mileage may vary of course. Up to where I stopped, they were all giving respectable performances.
