DVD: Casino Royale.....Daniel Craig in his first Bond appearance. I like him as Bond. For some reason it's taken me this long to finally see this.....library copy was cracked; Netflix never did send it; local video store gave me the Extras DVD instead of the film itself....you get the idea.

                          Casino (1995)
Starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Sharon Stone

I'm not usually into mobster films. Once you get past that though, this movie is high-intensity acting and dialogue, with an almost operatic narrative. This is a remarkable, epic character study of three self-destructive characters that viciously feed the others' flaws. I haven't watched this movie in maybe 10 years but it's aged well I think. De Niro, Pesci, and Stone all turn in powerhouse performances. The ending, especially with the main character coming full circle, is brilliant.

Some people may think that the profanity subtracts from the dialogue. I think it adds a wonderful visceral bluntness to the characters. And you know what, De Niro and Pesci know how to make the most out of improvised & scripted profanity.
