and we got the bad rep cuz of a freakish conglomeration of factors that resulted in the Blizzard of '77....what it really was was the mother of all blowing and drifting events...because no new snow actually fell....or very little anyway.....what happened was that the entire surface of Lake Erie froze solid, allowing the snow from the season to pile up on top of the surface.....which was quite a bit....then a really sharp cold front generating gale-force winds came along picked up all the snow from on top of the lake and dumped it in Buffalo in a great-big blowing and drifting event
