Try to listen to the other person and engage in what they say (ask questions about it, etc), maybe think of a few potential topics before you meet someone so there aren't too many awkward silences, try not to nervous laugh (no idea if that's a thing you do but I knew some people who did that and it felt a bit awkward).

But you probably shouldn't listen to anything I say, since I've never even gone on a date. ...at least not intentionally.
