Did all the men left in England get killed? Then Athelstan got crucified.
Spoiler:
No, that was just a hunting party, I believe. We would have seen King Horik die if he had been there. But it was a significant amount of the warriors since Ragnar left

Alright, I wasn't sure. So, that was Ragnar's men not Horik's then?

Spoiler:
No, I believe they were Horik's men. They were just a hunting party that was sent out. Athelstan, as far as I know, is the only remaining man from Ragnar's party, as the rest understandably left with Ragnar.
It's kinda hard to keep track of which man serves which leader. I guess it makes sense if Athelstan was the only one of Ragnar's left behind, since he would be the translator. I just thought there were others too.
Poor Athelstan. He's having the biggest crisis of faiths ever. But did you see his eyes light up when King Ecbert offered him the Roman writings.
Athelstan isn't a Saxon anymore. He became a Viking and accepted Ragnar's ring. Nor is he a monk ... no wonder he's in turmoil. Poor guy no longer knows where he belongs.
And OMGoddess, a blood eagle... I was wondering when they were going to bring that up. Jarl Borg has good reason to plead for mercy.

First the intended victim would be restrained, face down; next, the shape of an eagle with outstretched wings would be cut into his back. After that, his ribs would be hacked from his spine with an ax, one by one, and the bones and skin on both sides pulled outward to create a pair of “wings” from the man’s back. The victim, it is said, would still be alive at this point to experience the agony of what Turner terms “saline stimulant”—having salt rubbed, quite literally, into his vast wound. After that, his exposed lungs would be pulled out of his body and spread over his “wings,” offering witnesses the sight of a final bird-like “fluttering” as he died.
