    Stargate Idea Origin

Did the whole idea of the Stargate come from 1 episode of Star Trek TNG?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contagi...ext_Generation)

A super advanced civilization who was wiped out long ago. They had the ability to travel to different points in the galaxy instantly, etc.

Most of the similarities are necessary plot points to make the whole thing work - The idea of instantainious travel is a simple concept and has existed long before this, and any civilisation that creates such technology would have to be advanced. If they were advanced, there must be a reason why they aren't around today, otherwise they'd be a major player in the galaxy - therefore ancient and wiped out.

It's not the inspiration and it's not a rip-off - it is the fact that there is no such thing a origional thought anymore
I don't mean to sound like a nerdy fan who talks about science-fiction like it is real, but the problem with 'clever' storylines is that they make the audience start to think, and if you put in bad science, they are more likely to notice it. It breaks the suspension of disbelief

Right off the top of my head, the term Star Gate was used in the 1979 TV series Buck Rogers. Albeit quite different in the look but the function was similar.

term from book - "Star Gate" (1958) Andre Norton
first film when filmed on she scenario is "The Cassandra Cat" (1963) in Czechoslovakian film directed by Vojt?ch Jasný.
        but idea.....
Konstantin Tsiolkovsky spoke about "Door" (as Nox told in Sg-1) or "Door in Cosmos"
Hmm 1881 but he pupil Nikolai Fyodorovich Fyodorov (Gagarin)....
NFF - illegitimate child knyaz (duke) and full crazy, nuts maniac. He was the first on Earth began about the possibility of interplanetary travel, and other stupidity in the style of Asgard. (immortality, refusal of sex and etc). And what is interesting, it religious philosopher. And because of loopholes in the rules of the Russian Orthodox Church, he was a Russian Orthodox philosopher. His teachings have not been recognized heresy and it has led a series of transformations to Leninism and revolution in 1917. Really - Good intentions paved the road to hell.
So that's all nonsense Tsiolkovsky took from him. Maybe and "Door".

why is everything supposedly derived from star trek? even star trek isnt the first. merely one of the first to show on TV. but sci fi books existed before that. infact, the laser or heat ray was made big by War Of The Worlds. not trek.

Star Trek enjoys (if thats the right word) the strange poisition of being both a cult show and mainstream popularity. It was most people's intorduction to Sci-fi, especially those who grew up between the two star wars trilogies. So to many people star trek and stargate (which is kind of in a similar position) are the only sci-fi series that can be compared
