Even without enemy ,Are the IOA's lies keeping Earth at peace?

With Goa'uld ,Replicator ,Ori gone, and Wraith are at a distance.with minor activities of Luican alliance ,Milkyway is pretty much peaceful .

Now without an external enemy ,could Earth stay peaceful without each nation turning against each other?
Or at least could the lies about the stargate unite world government ,and the little IOA club with all the lies and actually be good for Earth?

All of the IOA countries know about stargate ,and make agreement to share alien technologies and how to use it.

With the lies ,without general public knowning about the truth ,it would be a lot easier to run the planet .
Like Russian and Chinese want a Daedulas class ship and somehow they got it,(Russian 304 got destory on her first mission, the Chinese one were damage but proabbly can be salvage)
without all the red tape ,public discussion and debate, political opposition.

As long as world governments lying to the world , they can be honest with each other behind close door and sort out little things like border disputes , trade problem , world currencies problem. Without appearing weak in public.


Do you think major power of IOA would start war over little thing like oil when Naqahdah could power the world.But if general public find out about it and then every body wants a their share ,and soon the supply got scare and like the oil supply and then we have war over it.

If one day people find out about the lies , they can just use Carter's experience from the alternative universe as an excuse to keep the truth hidden.and there may still be other enemy out there to justified all those lies.

In all seriousness, I think if they revealed the stargate, and Earth's allies, and not mention the enemies until they're about to strike..
Maybe mention there are hostile aliens but we are technologically superior thanks to our allies.. or something..

We cant forget that the original purpose of the system lords was to keep themselves as gods over humans and defense against threats from outside the galaxy That alone makes the SGC and atlantis and the IOA important.

As for free energy naquada technology, the US has sole access to off world supplies making the US the boss. That probably puts a dampner on its use globally.

Since when has the rest of the world had a problem with the US bearing the brunt of the financial and human burden when it comes to military opps. It needs to be public before we all completely share it and I think they should slowly phase in this concept.

There are two sides to this discussion (as most when discussing things like this) - what is best from a dramatic point of view, and what is more realistic.

The most realistic point for the stargate to be made public was between season 8 and 9. No Goa'uld, no Ori, no Wraith; they would reveal it using "we kept it a secret due to the danger, now that danger has gone we are sharing the knowledge with you". There would still be problems, probably a few riots, but that will happen no matter when it is revealed, and as said before, the longer they wait the worse it would be. (No president wants to be seen to be hiding such a secret, nor do they want to be in charge when riots break out...so they make half hearted gestures like putting a civilian in charge). Also the longer they leave it, the more likely it is that it will come out as a result of good journalist or disgruntled former employee. This would lead to a bigger response from the public, as it would not give the governments the opportunity to volunteer their honesty.

From a dramatic point of view, it's best that the stargate never gets revealed, as that spoils the whole 'it could actually be happening for real' joke, but there is also the fact that the longer they keep it a secret, the more likely it is to come out, making it less realistic for them to be keeping it secret. Also, as story lines get bigger, there are more and more elaborate cover-ups needed, how many asteroid near misses happen in stargate that don't happen in the real world, eventually the two worlds are going to separate so far that the 'it could be really happening' bit wears off. This is where whats best dramatically and whats most realistic cross over, and I think they are reaching that point now. It would be a shame for it to go public, but i really think it will start harming the show if they wait too long.

It could be revealed gradually, also increasing international presence in the stargate program... even in the atlantis expedition I have seen so few european members...

Well keeping Atlantis clocked in the Atlantic will work for a bit. But wouldn't the clock be powered by a ZPM? And eventually the power will run out. So they will need a new plan when that happens. Though putting it in the very center of the ocean may work, so when it suddenly appears out of nowhere!!!

Very true. Icon was just one example where the showcasing of the gate and what it ment turned the world up on its head. Look at the SG1 ep where landry was president. WE had 302s firing on other countries, and martial law through out the country. And that was what we saw...
