    Aurora Class Differences

So, in SGA's season 3 episode "Progeny", when Niam shows Elizabeth how the Ancients tried to destroy their nanite creations, the ships look Aurora Class, and have four engines, one above the other on both sides like this: _ _
    _ _

but the Aurora Class ships in every other episode (i.e. "Inferno" / "Allies" / "Travellers" / "Be All My Sins Remember'd") have four engines running parallel, like this: _ _ _ _

Probably a design error by the SFX department, or were the ships in "Progeny" of another class that we have yet to see?

Pi to 16 decimal places: 3.1415926535897932

Nope, simply another class ship, probably the one that i used to call Replicator Support Cruiser. The one that shot at the Apollo in lifeline, and attacked the team in This Mortal Coil.

Edit: this is my guess, we don't see it clearly enough to be sure, maybe it's a totally different class. but the alingment of the engines is identical.(For those who haven't seen Lifeline in HD: when the repliship de-cloaks, we see the front, not the rear, so it faces the jumper)

In 'Aurora' it was said that they had both ships with interstellar hyperdrive engines and ships with intergalactic hyperdrives. So it's been suggested by fans that those are a class of ship that have the latter installed. But thus far it hasn't been explored in the show so we'll have to wait and see if they introduce an intergalactic Ancient ship and if it looks the same as the ones in 'Progeny.'

McKAY: Well, according to the Atlantis database, there are two different types of Ancient hyperdrive: there's the more basic interstellar kind, like the one the Aurora has; and then there's the more powerful intergalactic kind, similar to the one the Asgard provided us for the Daedalus.

I think this is just the device itself. remember the Tria, the possibly Aurora class ship they met in the galactic void? It never has been said which type of hyperdrive she has, but my strong feeling is, that the Ancients wouldn't have started an intergalactic voyage with the weaker hyperdrive. They would have made a small jump to flee from the wraith, and then they would have modified their hyperdrive like the crew of the Aurora. But it wasn't a factor, because their hyperdrive suffered irreperable damage etc....

I don't think that they would have built a totally different class just for interstellar voyage, they can replace a hyperdrive anytime in a ship.

Tria had intergalatic. It sputted out half way through.

That, or they started 1.5 million years ago...

actually i was looking at the screencaps for progeny and here

              http://www.gateworld.net/gallery/dis...um=296&pos=639

i was looking at the second ship in the background, and it looks like there is a massive amount of diffrences between the aurora and the other ship. for instance, there is two even sidecars thingys insted of 1.
