It didnt leed to cool stuff :~~ They could have almost the same and not kill them =p
If they wanted to get rid of the asgards, I guess they could have waited til the AOT, and say they asgards got pissed off with us cuz we used the aot, and moved to another galaxy.. It could even lead to:

    Spoiler:
the sgu ship and all, either we looking for them, or one of them telling us that they found...

When the Asgard set up their new homeworld in "New Order", Thor said that most of their people had been downloaded into computer systems and were in the process of being put into new bodies. All of those put into the new bodies would be afflicted by the disease. I doubt there were any individuals who didn't have the disease.

Thor only described it as a "physiological degeneration" that led to a "rapidly progressing disease".

It was probably a condition that kills the body, but also takes less and less time to kill the body as each new "generation" of clones are created. Every time they were transferred to a new body, they had less time in that body before it died and they had to be transferred to a new clone.

If the time "in-body" didn't get less each time, they would have no reason to worry about it since they could swap bodies forever. Thor was on his third (at least) that we know of, right?

The Asgard are as old as the Ancients right...

there's nothing to say that the Asgard didn't split off wth the advent of cloning and have seeded themselves in another galaxy and look exactly like that Asgard in the Stasis chamber that SG-1 had to help get back to Othala...
They would still look like that as they wouldn't have embraced consciousness downloads to clones. The same way the Alterans split from the ORI and created a completely different society...
              - - - - - - - - - - - -
              - Daniel J. epitomises the STD geek I think... To come from an Intellectual field and then to progress into one of the most Kick ass Characters EVER! Only wish he got to continue the development of that character into Atlantis... meh

Well, probably not. As little as 30,000 years ago the Asgard didn't have FTL capabilities and were using sleeper ships. Contrast that to the Alterans who had FTL capabilities as far back as 50,000,000+ years ago.

Why didnt they had FTL ( battlestar ? ) capabilities 30k years ago ?

During the show, the asgards imply that the alterans are way older than they.

I`m really lazy, and will look about the disease, I`m pretty sure Thor or Loki gave us an half assed explanation... Something about they cloning themselves over and over... What on a scientific point of view would be flawed ( as each clone is independent of the other, they dont clone the clones, just make another copy of the original ).

I dunno. Maybe they hadn't invented theirs yet.

In "Revelations" (5x22), Heimdall said that the Asgard ancestor that he was studying was placed in "suspended animation" 30,000 years ago and set out on its course.

But we have found ancients in suspended animation traveling in space twice, from 10k years ago, what doesnt mean they didnt have FTL sleeps ( in fact, we do know they had hyperdrivers but they were broken ).

Yeah, the Atlantis crew found Ancients in stasis pods, but they didn't start their journey in them. They were a last resort (and we're not really sure that the Tria crew were in them, it was just speculation on McKay's part).

However, according to Heimdall, the crew of the Asgard ship went into stasis almost immediately after launching from the homeworld.

Even if the crew of tria werent on suspended animation, they would still be slower than light...

                          Spoiler:

HEIMDALL: That is one of my ancestors. Thirty thousand years ago a ship was launched from the Asgard homeworld, its crew placed in suspended animation. There was a failure on the navigational system and the ship was lost. Through the millenia it drifted across the empty expanse between our galaxies before it arrived here. We discovered it six months ago.

It doesnt mean that they didnt have FTL, it might mean that they were going to somewhere very far away and they werent as crazyly fast as they are now =D
