Anyone can call me prudish but I agree with Gelasius. Maybe some people have morals like you but there is nothing wrong with clean morals. I don't drink, cuss, watch porn or anything of the sorts. I have to live with myself and how I approach life. People like us are not trying to seem better then others, we are living life as we see to be right.

Is there anything specifically wrong with not showing nudity in a TV series, if the producers, and cast choose not to? Or is it required if those who want to see it can not?

its not if theres any wrong with showing it or not, but its about what is considered to be "right" for the show of stargate as a whole, as well as talking about what is accepted by different countries and cultures.

personally, i think its the writers. they have been doing a great job for over 10 years, so i think we let them decided whats right for the show.

Agreed. After 10 years, I think we've seen what's considered "right" for the show.

Unfortunately, this may be true. Or, it could just be the lawmakers who are prudes.

But also remember, Wright isn't from America, he is Canadian. And he is the one who said that violence is ok for a family show, but not nudity.

i think its the lawmakers. i have seen an increasing amount of frustration coming from the american public whenever the lawmakers try to decided what decent.

I am one of those who was completely taken aback by the full frontal nudity in COTG. One of the reasons is that I came to this party WAAAY late. After reading all the anti-oversexed Vala stuff, I just assumed this was a show that made it a point for people to keep their clothes on.

I mean, if we could have fully naked Sha're and Hathor raping Daniel (off screen), what was wrong with some silly Vala banter? That was one of the reasons I was suprised by the nudity.

In the SG1 realm, there is little to no cussing, the violence rarely involves a lot of blood or gore (rarely, not always). Thus, the full frontal nudity seemed incongruent and abrupt.

Now, had this been Battlestar Galactica or even Farscape, which makes it a point to deal with gory, bloody violence, cuss like there's no tomorrow (even if it is frak and frell) and show people knocking boots and naked whenever possible, then I would have figured, "eh, par for the course."

I just didn't expect it in SG1 because the show does present itself as a "family" show. I'd let my 10 year old watch SG1, I don't let him watch Battlestar, and he's seen a lot of Farscape, which is sort of in the middle of the two.

If TPTB want to re-cut and edit it, ok by me. Frankly, I thought the scene was a bit gratuitous.

And if you want to call Americans prudes about nudity, I guess that's probably accurate. FWIW, though, if I saw a naked person walking down the street I'd think she/he was mentally ill and would probably call the authorities to help the poor soul. If I saw someone carrying a severed head, I'd think he/she was a psychotic criminal and would be calling the police post haste.

That is one great scene...poor rubber duck or lucky, however you look at it.

i live in a collage town, so if i saw someone walking naked down the street, (which i have, many times) i would know it was initiation for a frat or soroaty.

The male 18-45 element doesn't really care about frontal female nudity in a television show today. We have the internet. Everything from big perfect boobies to hardcore equine intercourse is at our fingertips.
