We saw what they ate in "Small Victories, Part 2". They have little "pellets" that Carter didn't like very much, though Thor said he likes the yellow ones.
As for their excretory functions, they could have a system such that, when paired with their food pellets, there is no waste. There's no evidence for this, though.

In real life they're puppets so they don't need to eat anything. But in the show, they probably just have what they need in a raw form so there is no waste. How much energy do you think was in one of those pellets? Reminds me of the old cartoon The Jetsons.Best quotes ever:
