Since there's only been 3 seasons of Atlantis let's start there. The Earth Expedition has caused far more damage than anything else. They brought the Wraith to a state of preparedness which has lead to the deaths of 10's of thousand to millions. Only positives are they've given hope to a few dozen (who lost their families because of the expedition), and they've given the Genii Nukes.

They've also given Earth a powerful enemy in the Asurans, a race with superior everything, and no apparent Achilles heel. Atlantis has also given the Asurans the abilities to kill whoever they want, and make themselves as big and bad as they want.

They've even been directly responsible for the creation of a scourge to the galaxy, a race of bug people led by a madman.

The only alliance they've formed is with a small clan of primitives (who lost their home because of the expedition), and they both seem to be mutually distrustful of one another.

As for the SGC, sure they defeated the Goa'uld and the Replicators, but how has life on Earth really improved? Earth now has to deal with the loss of dozens of their greatest heroes, and the infiltration of their government, and business world by a species of parasite bent on world domination/destruction.

With real world exploration, sure everything was rocky in the beginning, but it's lead to technological and ideological breakthroughs that no single city of people could've come up with on their own. And in countries like the United States and Canada all different kinds of people work together to improve their living standards. Has the exploration of the SGverse brought about anything even comparable?
