A public gate does not even require a dhd like 2010, a simple program to an alter allowing travel to selected/ safe worlds.

Saying they would disassemble Nasa is going a bit far. They would get main technology first since their main mission is to "pioneer the future in space exploration, scientific discovery, and aeronautics research."

Each military would get a space program (IE. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Space).

Instead of making planes, they would make space ships.

Well the navy is obsolete, and would probably be joined to the airforce to make a whole new branch, the Army would stick around... probably as a reserve force. And the marines might go towards the new space force to ensure our ships don't get taken over by some mercs.

-Homeworld Security. something like the current army/airforce joined. uses F-302's and other stuff like new kinds of Tanks.

the heatsink didn't work properly, and won't. the space/time brige can't be controlled. if you could make it dump the heat in space via a wormhole or something, it could work, but not the way it was suposed to in Brainstorm.

The entire economic system needs to be re-designed anyway. With stargate technology a new, better economy would easily succeed. No power shortages anywhere. Fossile fuels become irrelevant and obsolete. What a dreamworld.

I think thekillman is saying use the heat to produce energy, like a power plant. Heat water to create steam, the steam is then used to run a steam turbine linked to a generator.

Well, it would have to be on for a long time to make another ice age; and the loss of polar ice over the last decade would mean the device could be on for a month with no ice age round the corner.

Think on the positive side...the polar bears will like it!
