              Winch length - 200M
Winch weight limit - 5 tons

              History and other info -

After the Wraith attack on Earth in 2009 leaving the USAF’s Deep Space Carrier fleet scattered across two galaxies, it was decided that a specialised Repair ship was needed. A number of specialised equipment designs were drawn up and presented to the USAF.

The ‘Rex’ Heavy Lifting Mech, nicknamed for it’s large legs and small arms, was one of the numerous designs that made it into the final consultation period, though it was not the final preferred option that the USAF chose.

Standing ten feet tall in it’s resting pose, the Mechanised unit is designed to operate on the outer skin of the USAF ships repairing any and all damage the ships receive.

Equipped with a wide array of equipment the Rex is capable of repairing anything deemed repairable.

Sat over the Rex’s left ‘hip’ is an extendable crane arm, which, in turn, has an extendable four arm pincer located on the end of the arm. Each arm of the pincer is topped by a small gravity generating pad. When activated the pads can lift up to 10 tons in weight, though the amount drastically increases when in Zero/Low gravity situations.

In addition to the crane, the Rex is equipped with two pilot controlled arms topped with a five fingered hand. Each hand contains three slots for a specialised tool to be placed on the back of the hand. When a tool is selected, the hand closes into a fist and the selected tool is hydraulically pushed forward.

Finally, The Rex also has a winch system located under the cockpit. The reach of the winch can extend outwards to 200 M and can drag up to 5 tons in an Earth-like atmosphere.

Through study of the Lantian mind control system, the Rex is the first USAF owned vehicle that is partially mind operated. Each pilot wears a specially designed helmet that registers specific areas of the pilots brain. Normal time between the pilot thinking a command and the Rex executing it is roughly 0.002 of a second.

While most of the Rex’s systems are Mind controlled, a few are not, and these are controlled via four touch screen monitors the pilot flips down upon entering the Rex.

Due to the Rex’s shape and weight, a small gravitational system is activated as the Rex takes a step, stopping the Rex from toppling over while a leg is in motion. Although it is powerful enough to keep the Rex upright, the system is not capable of lifting the Rex into the air.

                    For the The Fifteenth Challenge
you will be creating an Orbital weapons/defensive satelite system from any country of any era, including the future. The restrictions on technology are going to be lifted on this challenge. This is to make it easier for you modelers to dream up your creations. But keep it reasonable because you want to be able to win it in the end. All submissions are due on July 20th Midnight GMT. If you want to do something and think it's against the rules, go check them out they are on the first post. Happy Modeling!

Got a good start. Basically a huge floating railgun that can change target with manouvering thrusters.

Looks good... all i got was a box...

While the Orbital Defence Platform is not manned, it does have a small pressurised compartment and docking port for a Spear-Class Transport. This space would contain a small array of consoles, enough for someone to be able to check the ODP's systems on-site...

Generally the ODP will be remote/computer controlled from a location planetside.
