If he went through the stargate in the first place, how could he be sent back to a time when there wasn't any stargate?

i just re-watched the pilot episode of atlantis (again) and realized something i hadn't before the ancients arived in pegasus "SEVERAL MILLION YEARS AGO" acording to the text in the intro

but stellar drift and the planed revolving around the star might cause it not being where it ought to.

indeed but if stellar drift didnt affect the wormhole going forward in time why would it affect it going backwards if anything he would have arived in the gateroom with the ancients. at that point in time they were not at war so the shield may not have been a problem it might not even have been installed yet

There are a few inconsistancies in the theory. Going back to 1969, the stellar drift would have been tiny. Going FORWARD 48000 years? I wouldn't thought it would be near the origianl locale.

Out of interest, why was Atlantis on a flat plain? Sure, the ocean dried up. But the sea bed ain't flat........

over a large area yes the sea floor is just as geologicly diverse as the land. however, just as with the land some areas are verry flat on a local scale.
