Havin power cables runnin down several miles of open sky would be an navigational nightmare for aircraft... not to mention the whole 'classified' nature of the stargate program

cant we just add a large scale naquahdah reactor to the SGC and use it to rapidly communicate, beam some guys through, etc. or just beam up the gate
