So by Einstein's formula E=mc^2, mass is proportional to energy, if the gate had increasing energy, it would thus gain mass. Therefore, the if the energy it recieved was 200 megatons as Carter had said, then the gate would have gained a ton of mass. So, they could not lift it out of the base. Furthermore, it would start to sink into the foundation as time went by. And, even if the crane was strong enough, the X-302 couldn't carry it out of the atmosphere. The SGC was already pressed on weight issues with the X-302 anyways.
