I'm not saying they can take down a crusier just the darts. Now the main guns on the crusier might prove deadly but they don't carry hundreds of darts, they carry a smaller number.

The darts are the arm of the crusier, if you cut that off they won't be able to cull the planet (or any other) and might, just might, leave since in a time of war they will need the darts for anther planet and not for a small time planet so they might just leave.

Yes they do need to reload but 30mm cannon should take out its fare share as the main weapon and the stingers just as backup.

Last time I checked the Crusiers dont have dart just Hives. Crusiers are just for escorting the hives. Please point me to the ep wher it shows Crusiers carrying Darts.

More recently Travlers, and the episode where the leader made a deal with a Wraith to feed them the prisoners.

Well after all the prisoners left the crusier went to the main land and you could see darts in the back ground.

Thats not true..this all terrain vehicle can go anywhere

                  Spoiler:

but on a (slightly) more serious note, the british viking Linky Here project would be the perfect vehicle for SG teams. Ok its not terribly fast, nor well armoured, but theres not many places it cant reach, and with a small shield on it, a mk.1 naquadah reactor and a 50.cal machine gun, it could provide protection from those more stubborn enemys.

                  Some quotes from the site:

Bolt-on armour plates provide protection against 7.62mm armour-piercing rounds and 152mm artillery shell fragments from a range of more than 10m...-
Im sure with the materials and knoledge that the SGC have a more effective armor could be placed on it.

The Viking vehicle, which can operate in temperatures from –46°C to +46°C, was selected for its multi-role and world-wide operational capability in jungle, desert and Arctic conditions and for rapid deployment.
This covers most terrain the SG teams face in normal operations.

The front cabin of the Viking accommodates the driver at the front left, plus three fully equipped marines.
                  Driver plus a security team?

The rear and forward cabins are linked by a two-way voice communications unit. The rear cabin can carry eight fully equipped marines. Alternatively, the rear cabin can carry a mortar section, a heavy machine gun section or a fully equipped anti-tank detachment with Milan anti-armour missiles and firing posts. Both cabins are fully air-conditioned.
two teams or lots of guns! or perhaps an ambulance or a larger naquadah reactor and large scale shield generator?

And if every country involved in the Stargate program donated 2 vehicles to the SGC, that would give them a few vehicles to start with.

                          lol, ok.

um, yeah i imagine hiring a tank for the day is niether cheap nor easy.

But its probally because our teams wouldn't be the underdogs if all they have to do is call in a tank when they get into trouble. It would get boring very quickly.

Not always, thats what we have been discussing here, what vehicles we should use, why, and how to stop them getting blown up all the time.

Also i dont think an M1 Abrams or Challenger 2 tank would be destroyed by a shot from a jaffa staff. They can survive RPG rounds.

1 The Jaffa prolly never seen a threaded vehicle before, they'd be scared to death
2 The M1A2 can engage enemies from up to several kilometers away, counter that with a staff weapon?
3 The damage the staff weapons did to the blast shield in the SGC wasn't really that big, and an M1A2 has equal or bigger armor.

I dunno about APC's but the tanks surely have good enough armor, combine that with HE rounds and you got yourself a weapon
