About ancient shields, well has anyone considered the possibility that the current ones we're using (Asgard upgraded) are better than ancient shields so there's no point. Now if you mean Atlantis type shields, well we haven't built something as big as Atlantis with several shield generators powered by a ZPM yet.

More like the Ice is surrounded by water underneith and either side of it, where we could not get to. And glastonbury was not underneith a mile..

For the ring, that may be linked to the fact that the rings were totally buried under a mile of ice, and so couldn't get up and stack to receive the matter stream ?

I think they said the stream couldn't go through all that amount of matter.

We know that that matter streams can go through matter, but it seems that the ice layer was incredibly thick.

Maybe they were older model rings in the outpost (Over 50 million years old) whereas the rings in Glastonbury were only 1000 years old and made my Merlin, possibly upgraded with Ascended knowledge to work better.
