Man Jarnin, you are like the sole voice of reason in the Science and Tech forum, I practically gave up posting here looong ago due to peoples stupidity. I admire you for continuing and teaching people basic concepts of Biology, physics and so on.

    Keep it up.

EDIT: Forgot IcyNeko, he has some good stuff aswell, he is just a meanie .

back to the time dialation thingy. in order to create a time dialation field. you would need a massive amount of gravity like a black hole. because if gravity gets strong enough, it can disort time itself. So the asgaurd device must create a gravity field that does nothing to the world around it. it's gravity that only affects time. or something like that.

      please give feedback

also you do basicly use 100% of your brain at a time, many of the parts just arn't on all the way. like a computer on sleep mode.

nah, You, Jarnin, Mr. O, and Ourboros(sp:X) are the ones who typically post the most coherent and researched ideas on this forum. Me and Icy take care of making fun of people who need to be teased

Well, you're sort of right. Mass warps space-time, and that warping is what we call gravity.

A time dilation field would create space-time warping around the device (as seen in Epiphany). If it was a gravitational field, objects outside the field would be attracted to it, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Basically, you're looking at a field with time entering the event horizon at a normal rate and being compressed to match the rate of time passing inside the sphere.
Anything entering the event horizon would be torn apart by tidal forces, which includes the Ori beam weapon but that would have messed up the story.

The interesting thing about Unending is that the field only seemed to be working inside the ship. Everything outside the ship was slowed down. However, when they showed the graphics on a monitor, it clearly showed some kind of field surrounding the ship.
Technically, the ship should have been able to maneuver inside the field, which means it could have dodged the Ori weapon fire in a fraction of a second, but that also would have messed up the story.

Another interesting thing about Unending is that the Asgard computer core that was installed in the Odyssey supposedly had time dilation technology built into it. If this is correct, you could theoretically use that time dilation technology to speed up power generation and computation time to whatever speed you needed. That's a very powerful tool; one that would really make the whole Stargate universe very cheesy very quickly.
I mean, you could take an old Pentium computer, place it into a time dilation field, and you suddenly have an old computer that can process information faster than the fastest computers on Earth.

          Again, you're sort of right.

When comparing brains to computers, most people get it wrong. A brain isn't comparable to a single, fast computer. It's more like several CPU's put together with parallel and serial information being processed between them.

These days we have multiple cores in processors, and multiple processors in computers. Each core can run multiple applications simultaneously.
So, as an example, your olfactory sense might be running on 1 processor with 8 cores, and each core is running hundreds of different smelling programs for specific elements and molecules. One application would detect sulfur, one would detect ammonia, and so on. Then you'd have an application that puts all that sensory information together so you can distinguish the smell of freshly baked bread against a piece of dog poop (which basically has the same ingredients in a different form).

The neat thing about brains is that some parts that are damaged can be removed and other parts of the brain will learn how to make up the difference.
Basically it would be like removing all the software allowing you to speak, and having another processor slowly learning the missing software from scratch.

Dosn't modern humans use only 15% of a modern humans brain. That makes alot of unknown grey matter (or more the case, unknown wrinkles)

I consdier Mr. O and Jarnin to be very smart people but oncein a while when it comes to Sci Fi I hate smart people because its fiction and not real but other times its nice to have someone smart but other times its not
