that is the same as the BSG - wormhole style hyperdrive.
the most frequent was of describing a wormhole is taking a piece of paper, and putting a dot either side. instead of travelling round the paper you travel from dot to dot...
that is exactly the same...its a ship that uses wormholes to travel.

---- yes we have great discussions here ------- shame about MSN though --------

Although mine travels through the curled-up higher dimensions rather than going point-to-point instantaneously

Mine's based on the Halo 'Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine'. In the Halo universe there's an alternate dimension called 'slipspace' where the speed of light is different, and where there is massive fluctuations so that all points in the universe are closer together (think continualls screwing up that ball of paper into different arrangements). This also annoys tactical commanders in that the drive is only accurate enough to jump to an area the size of a solar system, and travel times vary considerably because of these 'edies' in the slipstream. The Covenant have a highly-tuned version that allows them to compute a path through the tangled slipstream so that they can jump incredibly acurately and faster.

Yeah, and then, how do you distribute a drug throughout the bloodstream and into every cellular structure. Not possible without nano medicine, and by then, cryogenics will probably be a non issue.

But we're not quite there yet are we? Besides how much of a drug could nanobots actually carry to everycell? Would it be enough for the cold sleep?

have you ever read Moonwar or any of the Moon Colony series by Ben bova. They talk alot about Nanomachines and nanotech. I love those books.

                            Okay I have a question.

If you were propelled foreward by gravity but there was no atmosphere would you feel the acceleration? And if not could something like that be a viable way to propel a ship?

You could feel the acceleration the same way you feel it when you're in an escalator. And you could feel it even if you were touching nothing (i.e. you're in deep space) as long as it's strong enough. You'd especially feel it if it was strong enough as you'd get ripped apart (the actual term is spaghettified) because of the force delta between the two most distant places on your body relative to the gravity source center.

Ok what you people are talking about deals mostly with the book a wrinkle in time going from one point to another so fast. Going into a alternate deminsion where time isn't going you can do anythign in a short period of time such as moving from one distance to another. A hyperdrive just slows down time it doesn't stop it entirely as institaneos travel does.
