There are already sensors that map terain and underground caverns, so technically we have the basics. It's the more advanced algorithims that we don't currently have.

A good comparable example is computer vision. We have many algorithms currently that can 'see' an item and recognize it within a database of items. We know that it is possible to go much further and have a fully cognitive 'seeing' AI system, but it is years from practical use.

We know that the advanced sensors are possible, but not yet attainable.
All that is true enough, but don't forget that all those sensors aren't the only possible types. There could be a great many possible active sensors based on energy particles that haven't been fully utilized yet. Different types of energy particles can penetrate different objects, and give information that isn't otherwise available. I agree that better computer interpretation programs is a plus, but the basic telemetry is just as important. Also, as to passive sensors, there may be elements, or materials not yet discovered that can detect things not currently detectable.

So basicly we had it sorted and you go and complicating it by adding the unknown? :|

Ah but the unknown can be added quite easily.

We take our deductions D and multiply it by that of the unknown x and you get the annswer A.

Therefore Dx = A. Now we divide the unknown out Dx/x = A/x and we get D = A/x. Our deductions = the answer divided by that of the unknown...I have solved the theory of everything!

                  Just wondering...?

Does anyone else read or watch Naruto? I'm a relatively recent fan. Since it first came to the states anyway, in Shonen Jump. Then I started watching it on Cartoon Network. Before now, I was a fan of Dragonball Z (still am), but Naruto is my current favorite Anime/Manga. Since then, I've sorta cheated.... (hehe) I've gotten WAY ahead of the current issue of Shonen Jump and Amer. vers. of Naruto Anime. I'm pretty close to where the Japanese version is currently, which is about 3 years after the beginning of the story.

Or.... have any of you even heard of Naruto?

(yeah, I know its not about science or tech, but, it is interesting..! )

Ok does anyone know whether or not it is possible to have two stargates operating in the same star system but not on the same planet? Like say one here on Earth and one on Mars.

The answer to your question is No. You can't have more than one active Stargate in one star system. You can only use one active stargate at a time in any one star system.

Why? And please give me a good reason not just one of those "because I said so" or "becuase" answers.

Doesn't this have something to do with the gate address system? Maybe the addresses only can go as specific as star system?
