Its 2006, IMO they should go and start using the M-8 rifle. Its modular so you can change its function going from carbine, to submachinegun, to sniper/sharp-shooter, to machinegun, and etc. just by change its parts around.

You can do the same with the AR15/M16 series.

The design is partly based on the G-36, but with considerable improvements. Its supposed to be issued out to the US military sometime this year.

Nada. FN SCAR was adopted due to some issues with the XM8. The XM8 will not be issued.

Modularity of the M16 series:



The M16/AR-15/M4 (and even the AR-10) series has an upper and lower receiver.

This is an upper receiver (with the bolt and charging handle removed, and upper handguard taken off):


The lower receiver contains the trigger system (fire control group), and the buffer tube system.

The upper contains the barrel, bolt, ect.

This is what you can do with an AR-15/M4/M16 lower receiver. AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A LOWER RECEIVER, YOU CAN USE ANY OF THESE CONFIGURATIONS. All you have to do to switch out upper receivers is knock out two pins, place the upper on the lower, and then push the two pins back in. It takes about 20 seconds.



This is the SHRIKE upper. It is a BELT-FED upper. It utilizes a regular plain 'ol AR-15 or M16 receiver. It can also fed from AR15/M16 magazines.




This is the UltraMag .50. It is a .50BMG upper on a regular AR15/M16 receiver. It is fed from the left side by a magazine.


This is an AR-15 with a 9mm SMG upper.
(NOTE: Some 9mm AR-15s come with modified lowers for just the 9mm magazines, however, a regular AR15 can still use this receiver, and that's magazine well fits that you can use so you can use both 5.56x45 magazines and 9x19 magazines.)

Here is a picture of another model. The reason you see the tube sticking out is because that's the buffer tube. Normally, it wouldn't be seen because it would be inside of a stock.


Here is an M16 with a Beta-C drum. That drum holds 100 rounds. Some of the older ones, however, got a reputation for being less than 100% reliable.

This "modulation" you see H&K tauting about the XM8, and how it's so much more versatile and modular than the M16 series - bull****. H&K is just doing what the M16 series has been doing for the last 20 years.

And, my Dissipator AR15 has never jammed on me. My SAR-1 (semi-auto AK) has, however.

psh! first its big and ugly
second it just a waste that the XM8 was kicked and shelved because of it.
ok one of the biggest mistakes of the US military was to shelve the XM8...WHY!?!?!? it was just like a G36 and a more updated version of it really, and not to mention i looks better than a friggin FN SCAR. like i like FN and all but still SCAR is just wack, i never liked it for some reason but yeah....look at the FN F200 (Splinter Cell's AR) thats a weapon Fn should be proud of instead of that SCAR. and the XM8 is like a gun that will always fire having less stohttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heckler...416#Evaluationppages than the FN SCAR, M4, and H&K 416. so yeah revive the XM8 its for the military's own good!!!! keep the HK 416 because its still a good weapon as wel, and sure the SEALS can keep their SCARs but they'll be missing out with the XM8!

yeeah! M16 series rocks since its been around for awhile its more versatile and theres more variants to it. not to also mention different calibers; 9mm, .45, .50 AE., 5.56x45, 7.62x39, 6.8mm, 6.5mm, 5.56x39, .50 BMG!!! the list goes on so DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE AR-15/M16/M4 variants because this is one kick ass gun, forget the AK series!

oh yeah not to mention the accessories you can put onto this rifle!
