Species Technology Levels

Its never really said whether the Asgard got theit tech from the Ancients, only that they studied it. So far the Asgard seem to have some good transporter tech and hyperdrive.

They did infact have access to some wraith tech. But they didn't manage to reverse-engineer it, they only managed to access the information on it.

It is true that different races specialise in different technologies. However the Asguard themselves admit that they are still nowhere near the general technological level of the Alterrans yet. Much of the technology used by the asgard to day are infact developped from the knowledge acquired by the Asgard over the millenia from the legacy of the Ancients wich they have only just scratched the surface of. Sure what we see in the Peguses galaxy doesn't look that flash but i do not believe Atlantis is an accurate representation of the technology level at the height of the Alterran Empire.

Well they could just have scratched the surface, but that doesn't mean what they havn't found yet is tech more advanced than what they already have. It's not like the ancients still make advances and put it in the database. The Asgard have had time to surpass the ancients.

Allot of the advancements the Asguard had made over the many millenia that they have studied the Repository of the Ancients is a result of what it had helped them with as said by thor. If the Asgard could look for the technology they need they could have easilly found what they needed to defeat the replicators it is most likely that they found random fragments of it. This is not ot mention what Goa'uld ships upgraded with the knowledge of the Ancients can do to Asguard ones and they are not even of complete design. For all we know Asgard beaming technology could itself be there version of some of the Alterren programming and matter deconstruction technology. It was in itself stated that the Ancients were the most powerful race to ever inhibit the stars and there knowledge has also been to Answer to defeating at least two powerful enemies that the Asguard could never possibly defeat on their own.

So you're saying that if i have some other races reseearch and improve it I'm still not more advanced than them in that area? But your right at one one thing, the ancients were the most powerful race to ever inhibit the stars.

And advancements in one field of science often lets you advance in another field. So the Asgard could have found information that would have allowed them to surpass the ancients in for example beaming technology.

Its possible that the Asgard initially got the idea of beaming technology from the Ancients but i think they improved on it and developed their own niche within the tech tree. Its either that or the Wraith developed short ranged beaming technology on their own without Atlantean influence.

I think that is true. The Asgard beaming technology is very similar to wraith culling beams only more advance and long range. They both utilise the same subrutines in their programming and have similar matter deconstruction techniques. I think it is safe to assume that these elements were derrived from the knowledge of the Ancients. (We already know that wraith technology and language has been derived from the ancients).

However it is also possible that the Ancients had infact made further advancements in that field of technology than the Asgard were able to derive and develop by scratching the surface of an Alterran Database. Its just that we may not have come across it in Atlantis due to possible technological differences. Remember the huge stack of gold that got beamed down in Avalon when SG1 solved merlins riddle.

I stick to my point the Nox are way more advanced than the Asgard. Ability to cast self cloak without a visable power source, Healing with mind. Need more. Asgard have no personel cloaks that we have seen and they don't have the amazing mental ablilties either.

I wouldn't say more advanced, they just prioritized the technologies they were after, differently. The Asgard are a war-like race, while the Nox aren't. The Asgard went for offensive and the Nox went more toward...mind manipulation and illusions? Not even defensive, or destructive defensive I should say.

The Nox are advanced but their healing and cloaking powers are mental, not Technologoical.... However I havent seen enough actual Nox technology to determine if they are more advanced than the Asgard.

Well we dont really know if they are mental or not. They seem to be, but is it a result of technology or abilities they already possessed?

Possible, we have seen the Asgard have such advanced things and are the size of the stone but to me i always figured the Nox used their mental abilities there. We did see their cityships but whether they designed their own or worked with the ancients or were created from ancient designs is unknown. They did look a lot smaller then Atlantis though.

The asgard do have cloaking capabilities as prior of the ori has mentioned in the size of a stone. But then the nox also appear to have teleportation abilities without apparent tech aid so it is unclear which is more advanced. The shapshifting spirits of Takanees people who some believe to be the Furlings also appeared to have small teleportation based tech who could perhaps be more advanced than both but we need more info on all mentioned races before we can know for sure. I would hypothosise that the knox use a combination of both tech and mental abilities.
