But didn't thor say that after working on the repository for thousands of years and getting much help and advances from it they could only just scratch the surface. Wouldn't that imply that ancient hyperdrives would be vastly superior to asgard technology even in modern times since they still have alot to learn from it. Perhaps the Ancients provided the Asgard with Hyperdrive technology which was ahead of them, in the same way that the Asgard are now providing it to us. The Asgard could infact be fufilling some promise made to the Ancients before they died off/ascended, like "look after our children" or something to that effect. The Asgard have stated they've watched our planet for a long, long time, and they do seem to go out of their way at times to help us.

Thats Brilliant! Remember in 'Thors Chariot' it was stated that the asguard were friends of all and protectors of all. It makes sense that the asguard are looking after the Alterran's children.
